Transfers Summer 2026 Transfer Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I generally disagree. Relegation is a potential career killer for players, especially if you don't come right back up. They would insist on protection, since it's almost never one player's fault.

VdV, spence, Romero, bergvall, Simons, Maddison, would have no trouble finding suitors at a reasonable fee.
Most of the players would likely agree to that release clause being a reasonable representation of their perceived market value though, none of them would have gone in to negotiations thinking that they would struggle to generate interest unless on offer at a significant discount would they?

Obviously you're taking about relegation so that skews things a bit when you delve into the hypotheticals, but the club and player would have begun the journey anticipating that they would appreciate in value, and so any proposal that included a clause where the player would be sold for around the same fee as was originally paid is already looking at things conservatively.

Whether these potential clauses also reduce year on year over the duration of the contract is another factor that we won't know until if/when the worst actually happens.

Again though, my main point is that it absolutely won't be as simple as all of our players just leave of their own accord and the club has no say in it, one or two might force the issue (Romero), some will be gladly sold by the club and will also most likely be sold even if we stay up (Vicario), and others will be a case of a transfer happening because it suited all parties, like most transfers you see.

What would be considered a fair price for Bissouma, Romero, Porro, Sarr and Bentancur and if there is a release clause what is that likely to be?
Even at the low end that is going to be enough for 6 or 7 proven Championship players with enough over for neck oil all round.

Think Romero, VdV, Porro, Spence, Simons, Kudus, Bergvall, Bentancur and maybe Solanke (if he goes to the WC) will all be out the door if we get relegated. That should bring in quite a whack of cash which will be able to mitigate for a season or two in the champo. If we don't come back up after that we could be in trouble.

We'll have no issue paying for a champo side that should walk the league. What I'm concerned about is, will they buy the right ones? Based on modern history, I'm skeptical.

I can't find the kit thread for next season so I'm just going to put this here.

I want us to bin nike sooner then later

I think some of our players would be in for a shock when they realise that there's nobody willing to pay their release clauses tbh...

What have any of them done to convince buyers to part with £30/40/50m???

Release clause doesn't just mean if we go down they can all leave, there will be individual fees specific to all of the players, likely set at more than we paid initially (which was often a fair whack despite the moaning we like to do), and they have to be paid in pretty much lump sums in order to activate.

Not to mention that the MGW fiasco last summer has demonstrated that a club can just totally ignore them anyway and there will be no repercussions.
I doubt any of our players have release clauses

Bissouma is out of contract so no fee
Romero 60m
Porro 35m
Sarr 20m
Bentancur 20m
I doubt any player has a release clause baring Romero and I imagine its around 60m.

All out the door baring Kinsky, Austin, Souza, Odobert and maybe Maddison.

So let’s knock off around 20 per cent as the relegation fire sale discount, that’s about 110 million.
That would be more than the entire Coventry squad is valued at I should think.
We will be able to build a squad to take us straight back up without letting go of the key assets if we have people in charge that know what they are doing.
