We have now officially opened discussions regarding a deal for Adam Wharton. A deal we tried to do last summer and made further moves last January, he’s a long standing target.
Crystal Palace’s valuation is understood to be around £85 million slightly higher than our initial expectations but we are prepared to push the deal aggressively and are willing to exceed our original expectations on fee.
The club views the addition of a top-class deep-lying playmaker as a crucial part of this summer’s rebuild, and there is a strong belief internally that there are very few Premier League-proven midfielders who can match Wharton’s passing range, composure and ability to dictate the tempo of a game - he would be game changing.
Savinho and Van Hecke being worked upon and hope to be done before the weekend closes, Senesi and Robertson all but announced.Spurs are serious this summer!
De Zerbi putting forth Guimares has me worried. That’s the sort of thing a delusional person does, there’s no fucking way we get Bruno G for multiple reasons. Even if he did become available (which would be for insane money), bigger clubs would easily outbid and out pull us.
We need a proper SD to get De Zerbi aligned on more realistic targets. If he thinks he can pull a Bruno G for midfield we are in for a long summer.
We aren't getting him anyway but Wharton worries me tbh - I don't see what a lot of people do in him at all.
Bruno and Anderson are pipe dreams.
I’d pay £85 million for Guimares.Yeah I would absolutely LOVE either Guimares or Tonali.
Both would would be first picks in our midfield without any doubt and improve that area massively.
But getting either of them from Toon is really difficult. Both have 2 years contract left at this point.
Even more difficult after they sold Gordon to Barcelona for 80 mil...
We'd have to pay ~85-100 mil for either of them by the looks of it.
I think we are going to get a lot of signings done at the start of the window... Which in itself is going to refreshing.. A pre-season with new signings... Shocking.Get used to the new players really quick, then piss and moan we havent bought anyone for weeks and demand a10 out and 10 in after the world cup or declare the window a failure while worrying about RDZ walking out on us
Yip but even crack pipe dreams are fun
Seems clear to me that:
- Luka isn't considered ready (or he wishes to go out on loan again)
- Romero is on his way out
Go on then.
It doesn't make much difference to the club's finances though. We will likely have to pay Robbo an up-front signing-on free instead of the transfer fee. That's the point I'm making. No economic difference between the two - as many posts on this thread imply there is. And given transfer fees are often staggered, the timing of the payments may not be that different either - i.e. some up-front and then some through wages vs some up-front and some later
Maybe, I think Vuskovic needs to be playing for us, his quality is so good he needs RDZ to bring him through, as loaning him out is just gonna make him want to leave and other teams will benefit from us.I think Danso stays, excellent squad player, earned his place
Also means Vuskovic gets another full season of actually playing on loan, ideally we get him in the UK somewhere
His ball retention is good and he'll be in a good system and have defenders who have a good weight of pass.![]()
Rafa aint no way these boys are gonna be pinging balls to 'Gallagher' on the half turn only for him to lose the ball in our own half, allow it

I would say £30 million or free next season... And sign an agreement with him he joins on free the following season, if Brighton continue play silly games.Guehi went for £20m in January with 6 months on his contract. He's a much better player than Van Hecke. No way should we be paying £50m for him with 12 months left. £30m tops.
I've said it is smart business.
All I'm saying is that it doesn't amount to ambition if we continue on the path of only targeting these sorts of opportunities and it stops there.
For ambition to credibly support a title push we need to also be actively challenging for the best players and sometimes that means paying market rates for them even in exceptional circumstances.
My point is, you need both
Woolwich did this for Rice, he's been their best player this season and they won the Premier League.
I don't understand what is so controversial about that.
Do we need to take it step by step, yes. Do we need to be smart with money, yes. Can we say we are truly ambitious until we have a complete squad capable of winning titles, no.

Wasn't Kulusevski seen running the other day. I think he will be ready for the new season.Kulusevski is done mate (unfortunately), Xavi is injured until January at least, and Maddison is always 2 steps away from injury. That just leaves Gallagher (and Bergvall to some extent) as a 10, who don’t have the same sort of vision or output as the previous 3 because their style is different. I think we have bigger holes in the squad to fill, but a #10 is worth considering as well.
