He's a left inside forward, and we plenty of left-sided players already. He also has one working knee and is not as athletic as Johnson.
I think Fati could play up top too, whereas Johnson seems like a pure duel with Kulusevski for RW minutes.

(The 4-4-2 in the second half last night was interesting, I didn't know Ange had that in the bag, could Johnson partner Richy/Son up there? Would he play a league game with Bissouma and Maddison in a *gulp* diamond?)

Absolute shocker lol.

Wouldn’t be super angry if Johnson fell through, as I don’t feel he’s an amazing fit, but if we managed to bring in absolutely zero forwards after selling Harry Kane that would be borderline indefensible behavior from Levy.

Hopefully just brinkmanship over the fee.
It's either that or we tried hard.

There’s no way a loan without an option is part of a rebuilding project unless:
The player gets us European football and the the chance to bring in players that we wouldn’t have otherwise.
or the player is a draw that brings in others that we wouldn’t have otherwise.

This would seem to be the usual short-term opportunistic cheap crap that actually does a disservice to a rebuild. No thanks.

didnt Odegaard joins Woolwich on loan with no option?

If he did join, has a good season, enjoys it at spurs and realizes it isnt footballing prison then there's no reason we couldnt sign him from Barca who may be one of the biggest clubs in the world ,but right now they're an absolute broken bum with a can of special brew in their hands, and would be very happy with a large transfer fee

Tottenham have made an offer for Real Madrid forward Rodrygo with Daniel Levy leading the charge for the Brazilian’s signature, according to reports.

Can it be true?

Fati on loan keeping our powder dry for next summer when we understand the squad better, have a less problematic deadwood situation and hopefully have European football making us more appealing seems like the stronger play here.

It really doesn't.

Just means we write off a season, a season where some of our rivals are more vulnerable than previously thought.

We'll just have to send big next summer in order t stand still.

Great.

:avbshit:

I don't totally love our squad either way, but I totally disagree that Fati over Johnson weakens our squad for this season, that's my whole point.

And it's Barcelona, we would have the opportunity to buy Fati outright if we wanted, they can't afford the team they've already got.

Spending large sums on players who don't drive the team forward is bad in all contexts and must be avoided.

Excellent deadline day reference.
Solidarity with the true sickos for whom the mere mention of "Leandro Damiao" is like Proust's madeleine.

Our forwards are so shit that we NEED to buy at least one quality player or two decent-ish players like Johnson.

We need Ange to do well this season to keep up the momentum, otherwise things could get toxic again.
