Tbh improving VdV is not that difficult, i would just forcibly strap him to a chair and make him watch Jan Vertonghen film, holding his eyes open Clockwork Orange style.

That should be routine procedure at Hotspur way anyway....

Followed by a cuddly conflab over a nice pint of craft ale with Daws & Ledley.... Rinse and repeat once daily.

You must be fun at parties
Please, this place was going crazy with thoughts of a title challenge and a trophy last summer, all because we signed Bissouma, Spence, Lenglet and Richarlison. That was a party for sure, just not one I’d like to be invited to.

Suddenly 22 year old Van de Ven who marshaled the 9th best defense in the Bundesliga and is 4th percentile in the air is going to transform our defense? I’ll believe it when I see it.

Romero & VdV will be our starting CBs.

With Dier refusing to leave, I assume we go for Tosin or back to Lenglet.
Was going OTT, but hope Tapsoba gets done and VDV, we’re selling Kane, Hojbjerg, Sanchez, NDombele at least (it appears).

Strongly hope we get two who are demonstrably better, from the moment they start training, so Dier knows it’s time.

No offence to Dier, he’s been a great servant, but it’s time we refresh, prompting for Tosin as well was mixture of HG and playfulness.

No one is saying he’ll transform our defence, just that it’s a step in the right direction at least

well because or LB options are the very "serviceable" Davies and a complete novice in Udogie....

......I'm not convinced kicking them both back down the pecking order for a relatively unknown/limited-experienced-at-LB VDV is exactly the most convincing answer on paper.

If we're making assumptions; then surely Udogie is the safer bet seeing as that's his actual position by trade? ("Complete novice"?)

(I"m not shitting on the idea of him being an option if everything goes tits up; but that's a far stretch from assuming he'll be play LB "a lot".)

There are murmurings here that he wants to go back to Spain and that he's the priority target for his old club Athletic Bilbao.
That would make a lot of sense and they'd probably be prepared to pay him a lot more than we would since they only really have a few plausible transfer targets each season with the cantera policy. I know they tried to get Griezemann and Oyarzabal a few times so defo have money to spend. He's got history there as well. I think if we thought he was available we certainly will have explored the option but there's absolutely no whiff of it, I think he probably just really doesn't fancy Spurs.
