No need to get snippy about it. Just wait and see what happens.
Just saying - Son's a LW, always been a LW, 14 months ago he won the golden boot as a LW. If, at 31, we tell him to pack it in and try to be a CF full time and trot out rinsed Perisic or unproven Solomon at LW because we're too stupid/cheap to buy a 2nd CF then I'll officially join Tottenham Massive Tottenham Massive and commit to the #ENICOUT brigade full time, post 10 times a day calling Levy a bald embezzling cunt, and wear a FUCK OFF ENIC shirt to a match this year.

It’s where we’re not ok that’s the problem. No point in succession planning where we are presently ok whilst ignoring where we are presently looking very dodgy.
The succession signings should compliment our first team signings. It shouldn’t be one or the other and the defence will still be shit in one or two years time unless it has an overhaul.

If Kane stays (which represents 2/3 possible scanearios over the next 12 months) then there isn't sufficient game-time on the cards for a 3rd CF.

Veliz could very easily end up going on loan to a European club in January and even another club next season but still end up an unbelievable signing for 15m

Saying that, by the looks of the kids passion and aggression, he's expecting to be our starting #9 tomorrow...

I'll be honest, I don't really get the thinking behind Veliz if he's going on loan because it means we need to sign another forward for this season if Kane goes.
In my opinion playing Veliz from the off would make a lot of sense. Ange wants his strikers to harass the opposition defense with pressing and their movement. This kid looks like he can do that in spades. And even if he doesn't get a lot of goals, Ange's system will spread the goals around much more compared to our previous playing style. We won't be relying on him as much as we relied on Kane in the past, which should take the pressure off and allow him to bed in more smoothly. It's a win-win. Richie will be the starter, but Veliz could start early cup matches, or come in as a sub on 70 mins. After that it's up to him to make the position his.

I'd love to have Velliz in on day one. But if Rosario want him until January, I don't see that as a huge issue, which is why we are having this discussion to begin with.
I'd rather we started bedding him into the sqaud and don't loan him out, give him 20 minutes here and there, then come January maybe use him more often... but yeah it's not a huge issue, just my preference.
That way even if we do pick up injuries in the CF position we'll have at least someone half decent, who's become familair with his teammates etc.

I shall still be able to sleep well tonight either way,

I mean, sure but Richy is the starting #9 this season if Kane goes, so you'd end up with 3 strikers at the club.

It doesn't click in any real logical way.

Veliz would be on loan in all likelihood; so buying both wouldn't effectively change what you seemed to already be proposing.

Seems more like an opportunity/price signing than a squad-building signing. Which has always been part of our issue.

......As long as we're not leaving ourselves short then I fail to see the problem.

Not especially......

Tried and tested at Championship (a higher level of football) & international level

vs

China and being a hulk of an individual surrounded by diminiatively statured men.

TBH people making arguments against Levy on a commerical level is the hight of hypocricy given that he's typically criticised for being too commercially minded.

Shirt sales FC
NFL stadium
Beyonce FC
......And all that wank.
I don’t totally disagree with commercial opportunism. It’s how the game rolls these days. Huge name player(s)= huge income for the club. I don’t like it because the players become as important to the brand as the club itself at times.

What I’m struggling with is the repeated bad choices from a commercially aware chairman. He’s pissing up the wrong tree repeatedly as far as the club is concerned. Doing great with concerts though, which makes no difference to my lobe of THFC

If Veliz comes in now (although sounds like maybe he can't because of his European passport application )
then it looks like Kane is off and I understand the transfer.

Or if they intend to loan him for this season and likely next season, then we bring in another forward for this season, then I understand the transfer.

Outside of those circumstances, it's clunky and doesn't really come off as a squad-building move but more of an opportunistic thing.

Why is it an opportunity/price signing? Because he's 19 and doesn't cost 50 million? If he is bought based on solid scouting and it is determined that he fits Ange's style of playing, then it's absolutely a squad-building signing.

You're throwing around the term LW as if it's the same regardless of the system. Does a LW in Conte's system play exactly the same way as a LW in Ange's system?

I’m sure if the club had wanted him to stay and get himself fit, he would have stayed. We were competing on several fronts and ended up in the biggest final of them all. A fit and fresh Dembele would have had more impact in that final than an unfit Harry Kane.

That's entirely moot:

1. Poch would have insisted on playing Kane regardless.
2. Dembele doesn't play CF.
3. He wasn't fit enough to play for months when he first arrived in China.
4. Let's say he did play... We could have quite easily got a "big game" performance like his v Man U in the FA Cup Semi where he got rinsed by Pogba instead.
5. Expecting him to roll back the years having barely played for 5 months would have just as likely seen an increasingly frail player like him pull a hamstring in the first 5 minutes.

Playing with a virtual 9 men (rather than a virtual 10 men) wouldn't have helped us overcome a parked Liverpool bus in that scorching heat.

I do think Tosin becomes a priority now though. Because if we’re having to pay the steep price of £40m for VdV, and something approaching £60m for Tapsoba, I would be very surprised if we complete both.

Adarabioyo is cheaper and HG, I think we end up with him or Lenglet in addition to either VdV or Tapsoba.

Which is why, if Van de Ven is the marquee first team transformative CB signing, I am concerned.

If we're not going big in the defence dept, perhaps we should take General Melchett's advice and arm our full-backs with heavy machine guns....just a thought....

Unless Kane is off.
