Absolutely no chance we score as many goals. 70 goals last season in the league. Kane scored 42% of those.
Son was dogshit for about two thirds of the season. Kulu was dogshit for the whole season. Richarlison got more bookings for celebrating goals than actual goals.
Solomon and Veliz is a kid,

For reference
City 94 goals of which 38% scored by Haaland. Haaland who was an upgrade on any of their forwards in prior seasons.
Arse - 88 goals of which 17% were scored by Martinelli.

We are/were heavily reliant on Kane to not only score our goals, but make them too.
Take that out and we, even with a totally different style of play and formation, will score less goals. We're bringing in punts. not guaranteed goals.

If we weren't so astonishingly unreliable a the back I would take that punt for a year. Batten down the hatches, stop shipping goals and hope the new forwards can step up. But as it is, the most touches they'll get is kicking off a few times a game.
That's exactly why our attack will be better. Son was playing in a role that's bad for him and was carrying an injury, Kulu lost all confidence after getting dropped, Richarlison was playing out of position. The only functioning part of our attack was Kane. If we keep the ball, play creative players, drop players who are out of form / bad fit, then our attack will be easily superior.

Let's talk numbers. Harry scored 30 goals from an xG of around 21, huge overperformance. Richy with his movement should at least match Harry's xG playing at the focal point of our attack, but obviously his finishing isn't as good, so let's say he underperforms and scores 15. Do you think we can't increase our goals scored by more than 15 playing dynamic attacking football with players like Maddison and Lo Celso?

I get tired of making these predictions look so easy.

It’s hard work making this look so easy

But....But I was told this was in the bag this morning.....

Knew it was too good to be true

I think Andrew Gaffney needs to have a day off.

Literally NOBODY is saying "Sign a player any player" I do see a lot of people saying "Sign a fucking Centre back"

We need defenders, signing a young forward hasn't fixed that has it?

It was looking good on both the VDV and Tapsoba front but neither of those is over the line yet, and Tapsoba is now looking a lot further off again.

I don't know who he is, but he can get fucked.

Why is it so difficult to sign a young decent Dutch centre back from a midtable German club who our manager has wanted all summer and who has already visited our training ground and agreed personal terms which happened over a month ago

Because they know we want him and they can sit it out waiting for our highest price as the deadline nears.

I imagine they've moved the goal posts regarding price.

If we just bend over at every opportunity. We'd have wasted 40m of our budget on David fucking Raya

Itll get done, chill.

So like we did with Raya why not move onto a cheaper alternative. VdV has some qualities but he is that special and unique. Surely the data led approach can throw up some different names

Fam Rom reports it's about payment terms not price.

Seems they want more up front, which probably impacts the number of other deals we can do this summer.

But they have signed a few defenders so the needle swings a bit because they probably need to sell now.

Tapsoba the needle swung against us when Villa didn't dither about like Levy and signed Diaby.

I imagine we thought we could negotiate for VDV whereas Brentford have made it pretty clear they weren't going to.

As I mentioned before. I think Raya was a Levy choice. HG, last year of contract, probably thought it'd be cheap.

VDV is probably more in line with who Ange wants.

Depends what you want to believe.

OKeefe doesn't seem to think we were ever interested in Tapsoba and that he always thought the links were odd and it may have been a potential smokescreen.
