I was at least as angry at the idea that fraud was getting a new contract as I was in a terrible road rage incident once upon a time. At that time, plenty on here still thought he was good.

The profile of the club was absolutely at a point where we had the pull to sign him. Its genuinely fucking baffling to pretend otherwise unless you're on some sort of mega propaganda drive to pretend we were nothing pre stadium complex ... oh wait, my bad.

Maddison's profile pre being signed by Spurs was more akin to Clint Dempsey than it was David Silva. Certainly somebody like Van De Vaart was a higher profile of signing, probably even Eriksen given he'd done very well in Europe and was courted across Europe.

Yes, VDV was an uber signing but an exception not the rule.

The profile of players we would sign at the old WHL, especially attacking ones, was more often than not., young players from outside the prem with big potential.

Modric, Eriksen, Bale, Lamela, Alli, Holtby, N'jie, Nkoudu,

We also bought Moura, at a time when we had a bigger profile

The discussion you came into the middle of was specifically discussing buying players at the old WHL.

That was strategic and not by necessity. Maddison would've sacrificed his first-born to join peak Poch Spurs, and we absolutely had the 40m to sign him back then too .. Davinson Sanchez, anyone?

If you actually think the only reason Maddison joined us was because of the new stadium, then I don't know what to say. We were, in every respect, a less attractive side when he joined.

By the same token, we should also cut Sonny and Richie some slack for not having scored in the first 3 games, no? Yet people are melting about it.
