In terms of how good was the window, it’s not just the signings we also need to factor in the new manager and formation. Had we stuck with Conte ball then I would be having a meltdown but Ange’s approach and playing both existing and new players in their correct positions as had such a positive affect on our performances, results, mentality and outlook.
Window Benefits:
Vicario - a couple of decent games and looks like be getting over his early jitters
Emerson and Porro - both competent at RB, Porro has surprised me but he’s learning his new role very fast
Udogie - what a find, he has a very bright future
VD-Ven - looks like he’ll be a beast at the back
Romero - now playing is his natural position
Sanchez - yes he’s hit and miss but he’s been pretty decent defensively when called upon this season
Phillips - signed a very promising youngster
Bissouma - great to see him playing in his natural position. He’s been immense so far
Sarr - another who’s stepped and has a promising future
Bentancur - rumoured to be back very soon
Maddison - an absolute steal at £40m
Kulusevski - showing some signs of improvement and we’ve his deal permanent
Veliz - another promising signing
Johnson - will add pace and can hopefully improve under Ange
Add Ange and our new formation and approach and the future looks promising.
Now I agree making huge changes against Fulham was a recipe for disaster but some of the those players have performed when played with better players eg Hojbjerg and Skipp. I never want to see them as a duo again but they still add something when played alongside our existing first team players.
A better window would have been bringing in another very good centre back, 1 in 1 out in central midfield and may be a striker.
