Chris Armstrong was very good in his first season. Injuries killed him afterwards and Spurs fans never applied that context.

Spurs fans didn't apply context?!

“We don’t want to move away from original targets” I’d love to know who they were. If solanke was one then I don’t care what exscuse people have he should have done 1st of July. There is no justification for leaving it this late. Now it seems like a panic buy. Dippers under slot have evaluated their squad he has identified zubeendi to fit and have just gone out for him. If we had targets then they should have been worked on months ago and purchased if possible soon as window opened. Or they should have moved on. Leaving it this late will give the fanbois of players like solanke the exscuse of not having a proper pre season under Ange and wait till next year. We are always waiting till next year. As Del boy would say “ this time next year we will be millionaires”.

I knew you'd take positive news and find a way to shit all over it.

Never change, Karen Maureen

Feel much the same as when we signed Richarlison. All a bit flat for a big signing imo. Hope for the best but just doesnt exactly have you on the edge of your seat for the new season. Really hope i'm wrong and now he's likely to be here should have our full support.
He's had a better season than Richarlison ever had. The main thing they have in common is that they're both from lower half clubs.

Both shit IMO. Decent winger gets 25 to 30 goals in 90 games.

I have a sneaky feeling, although haven't checked, that most of that goal involvement from Kulusevski is under Conte and at the very start of last season. He went through a phase lasting most of the 2nd half of last season where he was anonymous most of the time. He became easy to defend against and very predictable.
If he can shake that off and adapt his game, he could rediscover the form we saw at the start of his Spurs career. But he was already falling out of favour towards the end of last season.

Succeeding Jurgenn Klinsmann was always going to be a tough ask for Chris Armstrong (although as you say he did very very well in his first season) but to add to that he was then Spurs record signing at £4.5m with all the expectations that went with that.

He did form a good strike force with Sheringham as well, but injuries meant that he only managed about 65 appearances over his first 3 seasons with us - and only 17 goals, not a disaster but not the level hoped for. And over the 7 full seasons at Spurs 141 appearances and 48 goals. Disappointing and frustrating for both player and club I suspect

We turned down Bergkamp to sign him. Although not his fault, it just means he was always dead to me,
Did we turn him down, or did he turn us down?
I remember we paid about £4m for Armstrong to replace World Cup winning megastar Klinsmann, and Arse paid about £7m for Berkamp. Armstrong was our record signing at that point IIRC, so Berkamp would have been almost double our record signing.

The one that really got away IMO was Zola. Apparently Gerry Francis didn't think he was good enough.
