How Dry should our Powder be?

Personally speaking, I’m not as high on Bentancur as others, Werner started vs Newcastle, Emerson started at LB vs Liverpool (Lamb to the slaughter vs Salah), and Kulusevski’s is not an Ange winger. You’ve just proved my point, in that last season all it took was 1-2 changes and it all went to crap.
As we never had any depth Ange could rely on, it became increasingly easy for the opposition to adjust to us.
Last year was mainly about finding out who can’t hack it and then getting shot of them. This year is where the real work starts with a foundation in place.
I'm not sure you can argue that our depth has massively changed or improved. We have a few young players with good potential who "might" be an upgrade squad depth wise.

In the same scenario this season Bentancur will come in for Biss once again.
Spence will play at LB if Udogie is injured - that's very much an experiment at this stage and not a clear upgrade on Emerson.
Odobert ahead of Werner/Kulu as first choice wing rotation could be an upgrade but again we have little evidence to back that right now.

Bang on.

Everyone talking as if a CF and a RW changes everything. Well, we signed one of the two best CFs available this window so why isn’t everyone happy?

Because, truthfully, a number of our other first XI, while maybe better than average EPL players, still aren’t actually good enough to compete for the title and we know it.

Sorry for any bubbles that may have burst. I’ve set my expectations accordingly and am still looking forward to decent cup run(s) and, hopefully, a final.
I suppose all fans are guilty of overhyping their team to some extent but if you try to look objectively at our first XI it is obviously way off challenging the top teams.

Even adding an extra 15 points to account for our injury crisis/slump + assuming we now have better depth, we'd still be 10 points off the top spot.

Swapping out Dom Solanke for Richy is not bridging that gap. That is the reality.

in terms of depth for that st position its probably best in the league now tho. especially now that city dont have alvarez to come in for haaland. cant think of anyone that has 2 decent strikers to share the minutes.

even if we did have better wide forwards the gap to city is still a joke and we are literally waiting for a few of them to fuck off. its hard to beat a team that has rodri, KDB, bernardo and haaland. now theyve just signed someone who looks like a mahrez replacement, just when they did kind of look gettable if injuries got them.

hopefully this i the final year of them dominating, these charges need to really get hold of them and bugger them, be interesting to see where the likes of rodri and haaland do go if it does fuck them.

The only saving grace is a good City stops Woolwich winning things.

Hopefully we go for it next summer and in the 25-26 season we are ready to mount a challenge with Pep and a few of his top boys gone.

Davies and Spence staying means we have cover at LB, LCB and RB until January.

1 more signing and I'd have been pretty happy with the window but overall I'm satisfied.

Love the signing of Gray, Bergvall new into the group, Solanke a much needed pressing target man and a good young winger with a whole season ahead to make a claim for starting position.

Window is ok for me. Not perfect, not awful, I'm relatively content but we need Gray to come on leaps and bounds this year in midfield to ensure the gamble pays off.

He made some kind of team of the season. I remember seeing the GFX and maybe getting my wires crossed. he was 100% Young player of the Season.

I watched him and had a very different take to you mate and nothing I've seen since has done anything to change my mind about that. He's 100% ready for the prem and sooner or later Bissouma will have a problem on his hands keeping the starting role at #6.
He was in the PFA Team of the Season as voted by his peers:

By the end of the season he will be knocking on the door if Biss isn't maintaining the consistency we need from him.
He’s not a 6

Hard to tell if, the window has been good or bad.
The club has purchased a few promising young players who, probably can't be relied on for consistency, but a striker for the first team should do well.
I don't expect much from the club this year, probably on par with last season, a few good performances and a few piss poor ones.
Not sure on the clubs final league position come May, with a competitive league, anything between 5th-8th is likely.

Mate, he had some decent games as a sub but every.single.game. he would have the biggest brain fart and just give the ball away in a really dangerous position. And as you say, when he did start he looked like the pace of the game just passed him by.
But he also regained control for us in midfield quite often when our CMs had lost their heads (Bournemouth away springs to mind). We could have done with him against Leicester tbh.

Really below average window. The floor didn’t raise as much as it needed to, at all. Okay we got a lot of outgoings but that should have been a given

We’re seriously gambling on some breakouts from our young players, as well as no injuries to our defence. Super risky
I agree that we certainly have some areas where we look fragile, BUT we can't expect to build a new project over a few windows. It takes time and we're going in the right direction.

For me, it's a 7/10 window right now. Could be 8/10 depending on what's coming and going over the next few hours.
