I think your takes on Gray are pretty balanced but would answer you like this:

A kid that's played 50 odd games for a team that should have been promoted in the Championship...
Won Young Player of The Year...
and also voted Team of The Year by his peers...
that's not a kid with much to gain from staying at Championship level.

In terms of comparing him with Bissouma. Up until the Everton game I'd say that he's a much better and more varied passer of the ball but have to admit, I really enjoyed seeing Biss spray it around vs Everton. Hopefully, that continues. Once he's acclimatized to the Prem, Gray will use those long legs to win tackles/duels and eat up ground in a way that Biss just can't do but for now, Bissouma is probably the better ball winner at prem level. How long that stays the case will depend on Gray's development and adjustment to playing at this level but it might surprise a good few how quick that will be. His understanding of the game offensively and defensively, like Bergvall, is freakish for an 18-year-old.

I think/hope Gray only needs to be Bissouma's rotation this season and gets most of his starts in Europe/Cups but if Biss does go off the boil, Gray will be right there consistently knocking on the door.

Surprised no-one talking about Devine - looks a more intelligent footballer than Gray to play 6. Both have high potential and I don’t think either will end up as a 6 but Devine looks equally good
 
I'm still of the belief we will sign a CB/LB hybrid and maybe a back up keeper.
As of right now I'm going to say I'm dissapointed with our window but what helps is that I'm not particularly impressed with any teams window bar brighton and maybe united.

My concerns (in no particular order):

1) I don't like the Goalkeeper situation and I don't think Forster is a good enough number 2 (and he's coning back from a serious injury as well). I think bringing in a goalkeeper on loan at the very least was something we could have done.

2) The CB situation has left us short. I think we should have trusted Phillips and kept him around if the intention was to bring nobody in.

3) The LB position has also left us vulnerable. Cirkin was available for 6m most of the summer and we decided against it. Other teams would have activated based on how excellent the player has looked in the championship, even if they had no intention to use him, and would just loan the player out to another club before making a massive profit on him or keeping him the following season. We could have used him (and now he's started the season so well).

I'm happy with the Solanke signing and the 3 kids look promising but, I mean, they're kids. It would be unfair to expect the world from them immediately but unfortunately we are in a position where we need them to make an impact immediately (if I'm being totally honest I'm not even completely sold on Archie Gray).

I think the fact that Odobert being signed so out of the blue with not rumours or saga will often get people to not remember he's a signing, at least for me I do.. 🫣

Luckily he had a very good debut last week. Hope the social media team can do more content on him to expose him more to the fans.

I like Devine but didn't see him having the physicality to play #6 in the Prem and technically looked really useful further forward. Has a map of the pitch in his head can receive between the lines, in tight spaces and still pass it forward. Either of those advanced 8 roles that we have in the cups, i'd be very happy to see Devine get minutes.

Think you and me have been agreed all summer we'd like him to stick around and play. I think in the old school, he'd be a #6 like Pirlo was (obviously not saying as good) but in the Prem, Rodri is the model for a #6 physically now. You need to be a beast that can be an auxiliary CB but at the same time be able to see the whole pitch, receive on the half turn under pressure, and break lines with passes. That's not Devine for me. If we sell GLC late in the window, i can actually see Ange giving us our wish and putting the team ahead of Devine's need for minutes until January. If he gets minutes will be the question but he will do well with whatever he gets, that much I'm confident of.

All that and no concern re: our midfield, which absolutely is no stronger (and possibly weaker) than last season..

I'm definitely seeing something quite different from a fair few.

Well, season starts in earnest very soon so we will find out.

We will need superlative season-long performances from 3 or 4 players to get anywhere near the top 4, which is the height of this squad's capability.

how can you say for definite it isn't stronger when we haven't properly seen Gray or Bergvall play?
 
I don’t see how we can do anymore business, the squad list is full already. This is our squad until January.

I’ll judge our business once I’ve seen us play for a few months. Surely people have learned by now that rating transfers before you’ve seen them play is utterly pointless.
 
I am not expecting anything to happen, I imagine most fans are the same . Our strategy remains to cautious financially and hence it is flawed . Jam tomorrow does not work as a strategy .

Lets say Bregvall and Grey and Moore all peak very very early , ( a massive leap of faith) , for arguments sake 3 years . By then Son will be finished, and does anyone think VDV or Romero or even Udogie or Porro will be here if we are not competitive until then. So we replace them with prospects and in a couple of years, ( 5 years at the club for the first 2 named ) Bergvall , Grey and Moore think , fuck this for a game of soldiers . Not saying it’s a definite but a jam tomorrow strategy has historically worked out like this.

I have very high hopes for our 3 youngsters by the way
 
I know we just thumped Everton but I really think we’ll struggle for goals in the tough games. Our GF record for the season might be ok again because the way we play, against poorer teams, the flood gates can open. But I just don’t think we have the quality up front to really penetrate the top teams. I hope I’m wrong. I hope Son gets back to his best, Solanke turns out to be a solid striker and Johnson begins to fill his potential. It’s out bench that doesn’t beam confidence

If Gray and Bergvall were 21, both looking like they were on the Rice trajectory, and if we looked at any of our wide men and saw real signs of Stardust I would be pushing you back on your comment.

Think there is more chance of us unravelling than us being in the discussion.

Frustrating.

You have to accept that you cannot build a top team in one year. Especially when you aren’t in the CL.

The time to push hard was 2018 when we were a consistent CL team. We signed nobody, then panicked and spent £150m on three useless players to replace Eriksen, Dembele and Rose. This destroyed the team and during the pandemic era we bought multiple mediocre players for multiple defensive managers. The only reason we stayed in the top half those years was the consistent genius of Kane and Son.

In that context, I’m satisfied with where we are. The first step to make a good team is to refresh things, we’ve done that both stylistically and with the age profile of the team. It’s 5 years late but it’s finally happened. Now if we reach the CL this season we will be able to add some more experienced quality players next summer. Players that wouldn’t come to a Europa League team. Let’s be optimistic and see what this squad can do.

There's no hiding from it. That is absolutely shocking. Embarrassing level of investment in the football team considering our wealth and FFP position.

So the football club can find the means and the desire to invest in a new 30 storey hotel.....But can't adequately fund a competitive football team

The whole thing is a fucking sham, guys. We're being taken for mugs.....
