FWIW I haven’t mentioned it again so am keeping my word

It’s also relevant in the transfer thread imo but yeah I’m done and just want to enjoy the season
You post as you feel, mate. Don't let the self proclaimed forum police bully or dictate to you what is and isn't relevant to the thread.
Most of us find your input interesting and reasonably balanced.

We suffer an injury to Vicario, on a scale of 1-10 how fucked would we be?

Yet again, we do the bare minimum and people think we should be happy with that. Reduce ticket prices and cost of shirts and sausages rolls and I wouldn't have a problem with our genuine lack of ambition and desire to compete.

BUT we're expected to pay elite prices for a 'project', one that is almost certainly to work....this time.
The fact we haven’t signed a back up goalkeeper is genuinely some of the highest levels of negligence when it comes to recruitment I’ve ever seen from ENIC, and that’s saying a hell of a lot.

Surely even the perpetual “8/10 window” brigade will agree with that.

The only real way to improve is to sign younger players and develop them - even Real Madrid and City follow this model now.

We tried the 'win now' managers like Conte and Mourinho and it doesn't work.
Yeah. The long term strategy for most successful teams now is buying young and developing in house. Then you sprinkle the odd superstar that becomes available on top of that.

Fuck me with a hedgehog, I thought it was over but it's not until tonight. Please just end so we can get on with the football.

I don't care who we have or haven't got. There's sod all we can do about it. Just whoever's in, run around a lot and score goals yeah?

Exactly, we are rolling the dice by buying highly rated youngsters In the hope they come good next year or the year after. If the young legs after an hour works it could, however,be pretty exciting.
I dont think buying the youngsters is the risk. I think that is really sensible and how we kick started our revival of sorts back in the mid 00s. The mistakes this window imo are not getting a better reserve keeper, upgrading Davies for that LB/LCB spot and not getting a first team right winger instead of bringing Werner back. Personally happy enough with the midfield options.

They follow the model, but it’s a version of it that’s genuinely geared towards on field success, something that is still very up for debate with regards to our interpretation of said model.

I tend to agree in regards to the goalkeeper situation tbh. Forster is 36 and is just coming back from a serious injury yet we don't find it necessary to bring in a decent goalkeeper (even on loan) in case anything happens to Vicario?

I think we’ll struggle. A couple of injuries and our form in the second half of last season doesn’t fill me with much faith.

Of course not. But at the same time injuries for them could derail them.

An injury to Micky, Udogie or Vicario is a worry and the same issue as less year. But our biggest issues last season were the losses when so many KEY players were missing at the same time, and that terrible run of fixtures we had. We may lose the same corresponding games but they are at different points this time. May not have the same damaging effect in morale.

We don't know what's going to happen, especially after just two games. But we'd have to be really, really unfortunate to lose our entire defence for multiple games again.

It was just two points last year.
