Looking at the players still available on a free transfer I’m surprised we haven’t snapped 1 or 2 of them up.

Navas - 37 - GK - he would be ideal on a short term deal given Forster is only just back from injury and was abysmal the last time he played over a year ago.

Depay - 30 - forward - he’s still a decent player and would add both experience and depth that we’re currently missing in the forward positions.

Matip - 33 - centre back - he was decent enough at Liverpool and would also give us experience and depth in defence.

I know they’re both an ass but Rabiot and Martial are also still available.

The window closes on Wednesday (September 4) in Moldova.

Thursday (September 5) in Croatia and Austria.

Friday (September 6): Belgium, Ukraine, Poland, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Slovakia and North Macedonia.

Slovenia and Liechtenstein windows close next Saturday (September 7).

Czech transfer window closes on September 8.

Switzerland, Romania and Cyprus are open until September 9.

Greece: September 11

Russia and Armenia: September 12.

September 13: Turkish transfer window closes on the same day as Serbia’s.

Azerbaijan: September 16

Israel: September 18.

Additionally, in France, clubs are still permitted to use one ‘joker’ transfer before the January window opens. However, there are certain conditions that have to be fulfilled, for example, this has to be a player from another French club. If a Premier League club wanted to sell a player to a French one, they would have to wait until January.

There’s a reason they’re still available!

Over the hill, painfully average or trouble maker - take your pick!

I bet Levy actually touches himself when he smells something like this brewing.

We don't usually sign older players on free transfers unless the manager really wants them, like Perisic. We also don't really have room in the squad.

€37.5m* average** surprises me - got 5 players (Romero, Richie, Solanke, Maddison & BJ) above that and 2 (VdV & Porro) around that but the rest generally quite a bit lower.

* Presume this is euros, if sterling then even more surprising
**I do understand how averages work but just saying my instincts would’ve put it as much lower.
