Yes but we also conceded goals with our first choice defenders because our forwards can’t keep the ball and play in situations that aren’t transitions.

Better forwards would help us concede less

How do you fathom that one out?

We had the best striker in World football, finished lower in the PL with him, scored more without him and made Europe?

The ball over the top or through the lines on counter attack was the killer for us last season.

Buying Messi wouldn't have made a shits difference to that.

The ball over the top happened after we gave it away too easily from our forwards.

And for the opposition to get the ball our forward players need to lose it in the first place.

Forwards who are decisive and make our attack more potent fixes a lot of our problems, namely the transitions.

The other issue of course were set pieces.

Thank Fuck for Michael Bridge

There’s no way I’m believing any of this Toney shit. We’re never even slightly interested

No smoke without fire. We probably will end up missing out as someone else won't fuck around trying to squeeze every last penny from the deal. But he has "spursy" signing written all over him.

In one of our required positions
Has a reasonable price tag due to circumstances
Fits homegrown quota

Ramos anyone? ;)
Wouldn't surprise me if he's heading to Saudi for his last huge pay-day.

Don't even need to go that deep. Appointing Jose then Conte was a terrible mistake and one that should've seen Levy get the sack.
This is something that Levy's most fanatical supporters on here find very uncomfortable talking about.

Why did the Premier League's most austere chairman, known more than anything else for his short arms and deep pockets, hire not 1 but 2 serial winning cheque book managers with no intention of writing the cheques everyone predicted they would demand......thereby cementing our banter status even further by becoming the first and only club both managers failed to win anything at?

How did he have our best interests at heart?

It's a discussion that hopefully one day his most vociferous devotees will be willing to take up.

Yeah he prob thought it was really funny to pay 2 of the worlds best coaches 15M a year and expect them to produce results

We'll see. But you can't stop all breaks, and if all breaks occur when our defence are always in the opposition half, we'll always concede a lot of goals. And also the lack of a plan at set pieces is a worry. You can't blame Johnson having a 50/50 first touch for that.
Course you can’t. Even man city are vulnerable on the break - how many times did we have joy breaking against them. But being able to retain possession and pin the oppo back will mean it won’t be so easy to come back at us. Plus how many times did we get to the edge of the box and watch Kulu just pass back inside. So many dangerous positions wasted
