How Dry should our Powder be?

Why do you think Ange will succeed if given time, where every Levy appointed manager before him has failed / been sacked. Like all 13 of them.
What sets Postecoglou apart from the rest?

I'm trying to be positive as possible as being down on stuff so much really isn't great for a nice life. So in my eyes:

We have tried a building method with Poch, and got to the CL final. League we were very close to winning or closest in our lifetimes.

Problem was club did not / could not fully support him at that time due to stadium then it all went a bit shit.

We tried 'guarenteed' trophies with Jose and Conte and that did not go too well either.

Finally the club is now in a position where it's very financially stable and dare I say 'rich'... Still not gonna be splashing 100mil on a player (yet) so don't get too excited...

Now in Ange we have a manager who is trying to completely uproot and change the philosophy of the club and turn the loser mentality around. This is a bit different from other managers in itself. He openly says he wants to win things, the league, 4th place doesn't matter he wants trophies.
That is also very different to previous recent managers.

So this approach resonates with me because if you believe you are going to fail... You will fucking fail. He is trying to instil a bit of backbone and I believe that he fully has the backing and is expected to stay a lot longer than the 2 years in his other jobs. This is why we are getting the likes of Gray, Bergvall and Odobert. To me I love it, as these youngsters - 2 of which have already shown they play with no fear - are the perfect players to be indoctrinated to play in Ange's way. The style requires no fear and who better to carry it out than fearless youngsters (who are good of course). These youngsters will be starting matches soon and they will improve us by making the older ones have to improve.

What also seems to be different this time is we are backing Ange in the transfer market. We are also impressively this summer getting rid of deadwood. You cannot do good things with deadwood stinking up the place so while that is not glamorous as new signings it is vitality important as well.

I am not expecting a huge amount this season. Maybe we will be pleseantly surprised but I think we will improve on our position, so 4th place perhaps. I think will be slightly better at stamfird bridge, anfield and scum. We will not be having 2 stretches losing 4 or 5 games. Just small improvements as his style gets further inbedded. I think now we take the cups more seriously so progress there would be good. I think the third season will be one where we could be really considered challengers and finally get at least a cup to show tangiable progress.

But as I alluded too, seeds have been planted here for a longer term appointment, we need to give it time to flourish. Crying because we drew the first game is pathetic and will lead to not allowing things to flourish...and before you know it the dream will die and it will be manager merry-go-round again ☠️ which is literally insanity

To be honest there isn’t another 6 with his qualities on the market. He is an idiot but we’ll struggle mightily to replace what he brings.
Im fine with him proving his way back into good graces from the bench. He was not always a consistently good start for us anyways. Gray on the other hand is a huge part of the clubs future- we shouldn’t be afraid to give a start to a 40m signing to see if they can cut it or not- especially against a club like Everton.

POK thinks and hopes more incomings.

Ali Gold thinks we are done unless a defender can be sorted.

Erm we've done amazing getting the deadwood out (with Manor going on loan and just Reggie/Gio to sort) and I know we had a bloated squad.

But we still seem light, and we are relying on kids. We lack experience. 🤷‍♀️

Yeah at this point I would keep him for sure. We can’t be jettisoning players of his quality now. I hope he starts today. He did something silly but we need the three points. Players have done worse things in the past and still pulled the shirt on at the weekend.

If we are done that is quite limited really. We clearly need a LB as Davies doesn’t have the legs for that role in this system. Ange seems to have been pushing for a high action pressing mid in Gallagher/Ederson so there is that also missing. With Gil and Solomon now gone can’t help feel someone better than Werner would have been helpful.

In effect we are reliant on Gray, Bergvall, Odobert stepping up to top 6 level players straight away and Udogie remaining fit for the season. Its ballsy but could turn south badly if it doesn’t work.

Outgoings: 9/10
Incomings: 4/10

Can everyone stop talking about us needing a 6 please? That is not Ange’s system. He has said so himself. He prefers 2 box-to-box mids and a 10. He wants to recover the ball in the opposition half, not sit a back 4 just out from our penalty area with a 6 roaming just in front.

He’ll be gone in the next 6-8 games so we will need one shortly

Cough

No. It is clear we are future building. As fans we want success now but this time seems to be different.

All of us having suffered the post-Poch era I’m surprised that people on TFC are not more behind the style of play, signings and disposals we have been making.
Why?

As a fan base we've not won anything in 16 years and the "oh so close" moments in that time has only teased us more.

The last five years has been nothing short of a disgrace and then to be expected to wait again for the future potentially puts us further away.

Many are fed up.

On the style of play - when it works it's phenomenal. When it doesn't it's a hard watch, all that build up for no penetration. And the counter leaves us incredibly exposed. We give up 1 on 1 and 2 on 2 chances for fun.

It's anxiety inducing. His risk, high reward but also high risk of failure. And I think that adequately describes the last season. More of the same, folks? But with a hope for the future? 🤣
