Match The Bodø Affair: The Mighty Tottenham vs Bodø/Glimt of Nordland - 2000hrs 1st May 2025 - UEFA Europa League Semi Final Leg 1

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I thought we were named after a comic ?

In all seriousness; we’re named after a real person and “ glimt “ means a brief dazzling light ( like from a shooting star or a from a firework) in Norwegian. It’s completely dark for months on end in winter so they value that kind of thing.

A cognate word in English would be
“ glint “ “ glimt “ or “ gleam “ .

Bodo is the name of the town .

Think of it as us playing “ Bodo Flash“ ; and then you’re onto something.

You’re welcome.
That does not explain the “/“ in the middle of their name, which is what the poster you replied to centred their joke on.

Even we’ve got a hybrid pitch .

Whilst Bodo‘s may be a bit more on the synthetic side of things ; we’re not talking about Loftus Rd ca 1982 here . With a bit of fore-thought and appropriate pre-planning it shouldn’t be an issue IMO .

Thanks JD, that’s very poetic.

Unfortunately I have a mental image of a Lord of the Rings character in a dirty mac waving his knob.

Spurs beat Tromso (further north than Bodo/Glimt) 2-0 in sub zero temperatures on an artificial pitch in 2013, after beating them in London in the first leg.

So its not impossible, even if Bodo/Glimt are more highly rated now than Tromso was when we played them. But Spurs squad now has better players than we had in 2013

Tromso 0-2 Tottenham Hotspur
Chelsea not that lucky in the snow in 97, when they were defeated 3-2 by Tromsø.

The Tromsø manager gave an interview afterward to remember, when he expressed dissappointment over letting Vialli score twice for them:

"You get that chance, to beat Chelsea with three or four goals, once in your lifetime, and we wasted it!"

You can't analyse it like that though. Because we beat 3rd place in Germany it doesn't mean that 15th in the PL is better.
We almost lost to Tamworth, does that mean 10th in the National league is 'almost' as good as 15th in the PL?
It was a one-off game where we came off best. Playing a foreign team could work in our favour though, it's well known in England about Ange’s tactics and how to play against them. If foreign teams aren't fully researching then they could come unstuck I guess.
I keep hearing comparisons to Tamworth but this was the starting 11 that day

  • A. Kinský
  • Sergio Reguilón
  • ,A. Gray
  • ,R. Drăgușin
  • ,Pedro Porro
  • J. Maddison (c), Captain
  • ,Y. Bissouma
  • P. Sarr.
  • M. Moore
  • T. Werner
  • B. Johnson

Only 3 of them started Thursday.
