I don't think there's any international team will give you what you want especially in qualifying rounds

People have weird international football expectations and I’ll never know why. They’re always dull affairs, it’s not just England. We didn’t concede a goal and scored quite a few of them, that’s basically as perfect as it can get in international football.

We’d already qualified prior to this game and controlled everything nicely.

I
"He's not as good as he's made out to be..."

Made out to be by what? His scoring record for his clubs? His scoring record for his country? His assist record?

You could say his passing ability is overrated, but it's not.

Is it because he defends better than any other forward in the World?

I'm struggling here guys, someone throw me a bone?
I think its simply cos, despite his scoring record, he's rarely come close to his peak Spurs/Bayern levels at England. Had a few tournaments where he's looked off it and missed a crucial pen/didn't pass to Sterling. Add in the fact he's a nice but pretty uncharismatic bloke and Chelsea/Woolwich fans are natjrally biased against him - they're looking for reasons to slag him off.

It's ridiculous as anyone with half a brain can see he's a generational player, but football fans be football fans.

Really hope he has some defining moment or wonder goal in the World Cup. I think he's lacked that iconic Gazza/Owen goal in a major tournament.

Tuchel looking shrewder and shrewder by the day. Leaving out Watkins raised eyebrows but now he;s explained how he sees using foden as a false 9 as his main back up plan to Harry Kane. Very clever way of getting foden into the squad.

Smart management backing Rogers too who has showed up at every England camp unlike other players who perhaps took their England place for granted. Now Bellingham, Foden, Palmer and Eze will all be nervous about potentially missing out on the world cup! I don't think anyone will be pulling out of the March internationals with "phantom" injuries this time around.

Exact same applies to Trent and MLS who probably both assumed they'd be in the world cup squad on ability alone. But Tuchel has them both warned now that they need to be regular starters for their clubs! Nobody is safe.

Amazed how anyone is questioning Tuchel right now. He's picking balanced teams and balanced squads that are winning games. And he's keeping all the egos in check by letting them know he can win without them. Was also a very clever move to decide to just build him team around Rice and Kane (2 players who never duck an international break and have always put England first). He's not trying to shoehorn players into the midfield, he's saying Rice is my main man so lets give him his perfect conditions (a player like Anderson to sit and do the build up). He's also giving Kane his optimal scenario by giving him pace on the wing and allowing him to drop deep (no more Foden out wide, instead it'll be Gordon or Rashford).

This is elite management by Tuchel. The best I've ever seen at England.
I was excited by the confident passing all game.
2 separate team styles before and after the subs.
I am super confident about England.

I have a moan about England sometimes but the difference in individual quality compared to the likes of Wales and Scotland is like it's on a different planet.

Granted he wasn't great at the Euros and was clearly struggling after missing the back end of Bayern's season with a back injury, but at the end of the day, there wasn't a single player in the tournament who scored more than him. He was among a bunch of players who scored 3 goals.

I have no doubts at all that Tuchel will get more from him in an England shirt by setting up the team much better than Southgate was ever able to. Gareth is a nice bloke and did really well to create a team spirit, but tactically he was League One level.

Moaned like fuck previously .. this is the best shape England have been in. It doesn’t guarantee winning anything as international football is a world of many factors, but I’ve not seen us be this good in my lifetime. We control games so much better and the quality in depth is mental.

We could still go out in a quarter final - the same way Germany were very good going in to the Euros but played the eventual champions. That’s the way the dice rolls.

I’m still really excited/hopeful Palmer works his way in to contention as I think he’s the magic and true creative 10 who can do anything.

Think it will be an england Argentina final.

I’d love that. The only team I genuinely fear or dread facing is Spain. Lots of others sides could beat us but I can see ways past them. France for example - exceptionally talented but not horrific to play against imo.

Spain is just a slow death, now with added Yamal so parking the bus doesn’t work as well .

Bit of a meh line up, but glad to see Wharton start. Don't see the point of Bowen when Madueke will replace him in the squad for the World Cup.

Bowen will go over Madueke, Tuchel wants players who are playing consistently - Madueke isn't a starter for Woolwich.

Not sure if he will. Madueke was good enough prior to injury that he could go back in off the left when he comes back.

Bowen is very good at PL level but Tuchel seems to value what you give him more than any club form.

If he has a stormer here etc then maybe, but I don’t think he’s done much in an England shirt and thus may be unlucky.

We will see how many mins Madueke gets this season, Saka will start most of their games.
