The OP highlights the difference between a fan and a supporter. A fan can aso be a supporter, but it doesn't work the other way round. People that go to games and boo are not supporters.
I can understand the frustration of seeing millionaire players not make the effort while a boo boy has spent a good day's pay on coming out to see the game. It's a frustration that many can understand. But, it is an emotional reaction, and as we have see all too often on this little planet of ours, emotionally driven actions are not always the best (if they were I doubt a lot of us men would act like such fools where women are concerned!

Ultimately, when you employ rational thought there is one key factor that unravels the argument of the boo boys. That is the fact that they agree to hand over their money knowing in advance that the team may not win, or, worse still, may play badly. If you then hand over your money anyway, well you may be a fan of the club, but you are not a supoorter of the club if you go in and boo. Why? Because supporting your club is not just about paying a ticket price and being entitled to a guarunteed return. You knew the risk in advance and if you are not happy then you should not have taken it. Nobody forced you to pick up the phone and apply for a ticket, or sit waiting on the season ticket list. It was only ever your choice.
So, to the boo boys, I ask the question, what good comes of your actions? Do you think it motivates your team? I think anyone with half a shred of knowledge about psychology can tell you that it does not. Footballers may be millionaires, but they are not, for the most part, well educated individuals and they are also young men, some even teenagers. They are impressionable human beings. If they go in to that tunnel being booed it does sap confidence.
This is why a boo boy is not a supporter. The players need to feel that they are playing for someone. They are. They are playing for us. No support, no club. I don't know about other people, but I personally, in whatever task in life I am working on, feel a great deal worse if I feel that I have let people down who are supporting me in my efforts, come what may, than fail those who expect a particular result. That is why a supporter is the 12th man. He's there in body or spirit, rain or shine. He's there during a title chase and a relagation battle. Here's there the very next day after a day after a cup final loss. He's there during managerial and/or financial turmoil. He's there to cheer on the team and do what he can to make the players feel like they are fighting for someone other than themselves. This is why a boo boy can only ever be a fan and not a supporter. He doesn't grasp the concept of engendering the players with the need to play for someone and repay faith and support.
It's not just the players though, these people owe it to the other fans as well. What do many of us do when we go to a match? We have a few beers, a chat and a bit of a sing song. The match itself only forms part of the experience. So, once we walk through the turnstyles and into the stadium we are looking for the good spirit to continue and to feed that good feeling into our support for the team. It is, frankly, a downer on any matchday to be sat next to someone who spends his entire 105 minutes in the stadium moaning and booing. Not only does it sap away at the enjoyment of the matchday, but it makes it very difficult to make your own support heard when you have twenty miserable people around you. It is therefore a diservice not only to the team but also to the other fans, who are there to be supporters.
It is a sport you know well. It is not as product with a guarunteed outcome. You know what you are in for when you spend your money. For that reason you can never make any argument, with any credibility, that you are entitled to generate a miserable atmosphere. If you cannot do your part as a supporter then I suggest you save your money and pay it towards something where your satisfaction is assured.

I love to sing whenever a chant starts up from the Park Lane, i generally sit in the East Lower/Upper and in certain games, and in certain situations I can find it difficult to sing due to silent fans around me or nerves from the score on the pitch. To get the whole of WHL singing for 90 minutes would be impossible, when we concede its hard to carry on chanting. Being a Junior/Lilywhite/Bronze/Silver/Gold/Platinum/Executive member of Spurs is being a Member of the Spurs family and you wouldn't boo your own family. I can understand the view that some fans are almost holier than thou in their support of Spurs and also understand that others are borderline cunts, but we are all Spurs at the end of the day and we are never all going to agree.
