Competition The Race for 4th

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

We're re-defining weird atm....

On one hand..... Angry fanbase, major OUT vibes for the manager..... Fortnight from hell, results and performance wise..... Faction of fans accusing the others of having low standards yadda.... Shit, under-invested squad.....

On the other...... 3rd highest goals scored in the league, top of the form table in the league.... Potential back to back top 4 despite being the 6th/7th richest club in the league...... Skipp, Sarr, Porro, Udogie to get excited about......

Could not give a shit about top four & I think a lot of our fanbase (thankfully) has also now begun to wake up to how meaningless it is and how its not the bar for anything. Hence the mood is still very low despite us being in that so called 'race'.

It's not a cup, it doesn't progress us in any measurable way, and frankly I have zero interest in watching us lose to the first actually CL quality team we face next year. What a pile of irrelevant, disinteresting wank. We offered nothing over 180 minutes vs Milan yet we're using qualifying to do nothing once more as some sort of bar for success.

True

But Newcastle have 41 points from 24 games so far this season - an average of 1.7 points per game or more likely to get 5 points from 3 games than 7 !.

So we really need to win at their place or at least draw !

And I much prefer to be in Spurs position with points on the board rather than Newcastle with games in hand !
… and the Barcodes have been in awful form in the league lately with no wins in their last 5 and only 3 points - part of it was their League Cup run - but hopefully they continue to struggle even with just one game per week.

Well if it gives us somewhere between 30-50 mil euros every season in prize money alone, and the ability to attract better players and managers, i´m all in!!

That’s what’s dawned on me a bit recently. It’s like some weird Sisyphean task. Except we’re voluntarily letting the boulder roll back down the hill so we have more energy to push it back half way up again later.

BUT in saying that, I’d much rather have big European nights than not. And the money/pull for potential signings is too great to ignore.

The only feasible situation where no champions league football would be better than being in it could be a situation where we have a young energetic team with a new progressive manager who can more easily balance lower expectations and fewer fixtures to build a proper team unit and challenge for other trophies.

Not gonna happen though. Stuck in the eternal loop of false dawns.

I am still so pissed off with losing that wolves game. 3 points completely thrown away at a ground we always win at. A huge missed opportunity to finish above Man Utd.
The way thinks are going prepare yourself to be pissed off alot more for the rest off the season.

The only hope is that with no cup games and more time to prepare for games we could go on a run like we did at end off last season.

Good post.

Include in that Bissouma who will surely be better next season and in a system that gets more from him. The same with Richarlison..

We have something and whilst 4th would be a reason maybe for Kane to stay, the right manager and investment would also be compelling reason in my opinion.

Let's see what we deliver next against Southampton.. WIth us there is no knowing.

Fact they also play Wednesday evening is in our favour.

It basically makes us like the scum under wenger. Get the fourth place trophy and go out in the round of 16 every year. They were soon bored of it.
What annoys me is we have missed out the winning part and just jumped straight to 4th place is out everything! :contefacepalm2:
As much as I hate Levy I understand the need for the club to become more financially successful to compete , it’s just we don’t seem like we have a proper plan , we just seem to have got lucky with Poch and have had a scatter gun approach since.

The one time Conte won the league with the chavs was when they didn’t have European football , guess who came second that season! :pochcry:

A point too easily forgotten.

That season we were brilliant but Chelsea, much like Woolwich this season and Leicester that fcuking time, had these incredible pace-setting runs and simply could not be reeled in.

Unfortunately Chelsea were just better that year. Its a shame because it was a good opportunity to capitilise on just how poor the league was back then but we couldn't do it.

Pointless if you're gonna do fuck all in the competition though
The hope is that we will have a more effective window in the summer with a manager who plays "club signings" and accepts there is a chance they will work out better than some of the players he wanted i.e. Perisic. Someone who realises that sometimes working with other people's ideas is a good thing.

I believe Conte threw this season for a pissing contest with the board. I will never forgive him for that.
