Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It's a really interesting situation.

I'm a believer in the player, but there is definitely an opposing view, and if he will indeed be a gooner I hope they're right.

Gamble is always tied to cost; but on footballing spec alone he is a gamble.

His top level sample-set is 8 CL games....... It's like us signing Ndombele cos he had a a couple of banger performances in the CL for Lyon; except week-to-week Ndombele still actually played in a better league than Gyko.

I didn't say anything about Vorm being better than Hugo.

But bear in mind this wasn't abnormal:

And this was the world cup winning captain in said world cup final.

Cup games are won on moments, not ability. Is beating Colchester harder than Chelsea? I don't know why the point is specific about Colchester, but our FA Cup exits suggest that yes - non-PL teams are harder to beat than PL teams, apparently.

Vicario made some monster saves in the EL final and kept a clean sheet, which is a key part of why we scraped through to a win

So we go from the Transfer Thread to All Our Yesterdays.

Can we start a thread called Bernard Braden?

FFS the Darkside have made a new £51m signing and another in advanced talks plus two more they are chasing and what has the wee balding one done? Levy is the problem!

Every signing is gamble. We signed "Prem Proven" Richarlison for him to barely kick a ball in anger. 65m "Prem Proven" Solanke got a whopping 9 goals last season.

I suppose Bruno Fernando's was a massive gamble too?

It's also a disingenuous comparison to Ndombele who had 1 breakout season iirc.

Gykores has now had several high scoring campaigns in Portugal and has proven himself in the Championship (with its famous physicality).

Pure copium from the usual suspects on here.

So we aren't allowed to discuss the merit/risks of a transfer cos it might put a downer on all the wanking over Scum-FCs links?

Sorry.... You and the lads are gonna just have to suck it up and focus harder.

Where’s Kudus on your list?

He's there, but he's spelt Akliouche.

I don't hate the notion of signing Kudus, he at least excels at some facets of attacking play, like 1v1 take ons, he's kind of like a left footed/right sided Doku - really great at taking players on, still a bit hit and miss on end product.

But I think we are crazy if we don't move on Akliouche, he'll be similar/cheaper (certainly wages will be cheaper) he has a more rounded skill set, and he's not going to be missing for 6-8 weeks every other season for AFCON.

I agree, and am puzzled as to why so many on here don’t rate him. Perhaps they care more about stats than dribbling, technique etc, or remember his disastrous performance against us last season.
Remember as I’ve said many times stats are miss leading. Better to include stats like chances created for donkeys to miss. Also where say you beat a man in a tight space play a simple ball to a team mate who then crosses for someone to score. In most case the assis goes to they who crossed the ball or simply passed it on to goal scorer. However the chance wouldn’t have come about if the initial skill to beat a man didn’t occur. Also players get an assist for simple passes to the goal score who then hits a rocket from 25 yards.

What is peak Poch? something like the below? 4-2-3-1

Lloris
Walker Alderwiereld Vertonghen Rose
Dembele Wanyama
Eriksen Ali Son
Kane

Back 4 positions are all debatable and maybe you could argue someone for Wanyama/Winks/Sissoko in midfield. Definitely no player is a certainty to get in anyway. 5 positions that you argue would be close.
I don't think Porro and Walker are especially close tbh, Walker might be the most athletic football player ever to grace the PL, and though he wasn't the best defender in the world by any means he did have a keener understanding of defending than Porro has ever displayed. Rose also was very good at peak for us, certainly you'd hope Udogie has a higher ceiling but as of right now he hasn't made a very strong argument for displacing Rose. Jan and Toby would walk in on availability alone, hard to plan your season around 2 CBs that miss 50% of your games.

Bentancur and Bissouma have both shown periods of form where they've been well clear of Sissoko but not for a full season. Wanyama's 1 good season for us was head and shoulders above what either have shown over a full season IMO.

Is there any reason to believe that this Stat-Splat isn't massively skewed by the fact that he's playing in France for a 3rd placed club rather than in the EPL for 14th placed WH?

So how does he measure up in term of your preferred data then?

.........One assumes you researched this before the above post.

EDIT: Apparently goons are sniffing around him.

Eh, that's overly simplistic.

Playing against Benfica in the league is a higher level game than Sturm Graz in the CL.

For club and country in all competitions, against good teams and bad, he is just going completely bananas right now, and looking every bit another Haaland.

It's hard to explain why he was so far from that as a 22-year old in the Championship, but he's made a significant step forward in every season since and his sheer physicality is pretty undeniable, his talents are not subtle.

The PL is another big step up though, no question about that.

2, he's had 2 high scoring seasons in Portugal, he had a less than 1 in 2 strike rate in the championship with Coventry, his best season saw him outscored by some distance by Chuba Akpom...
People are far too convinced he's gonna be a smash hit in the PL IMO, it's not that impressive to bang a shitload of goals in Portugal, 2 other players in recent years have broken the 1 goal per game barrier over there; Bas Dost and Jonas (formerly of Valencia). Jonas was 34, Bas Dost went back to Germany and flopped there with Frankfurt. Jonas only played with one other European club (Valencia) and had a roughly 1 in 3 strike rate for them. Somehow people have cottoned on that goals mean fuck all in Holland but for some reason Portugal still has some sort of mystique, it's an absolute farmer's league outside the handful of big clubs, most of the teams in the bottom half have wage bills comparable to the top spenders in league two. He's got a few goals in Europe but an equal number of games where he was utterly anonymous, some of which were not against top opposition.
