I am not quite understanding this. Isn’t a buyout clause paid by the player?

In other words, Tottenham plays the player who then pays his current club to terminate the contract.

Is this not how it works?
In Spain, player buys his contract out (by depositing the buy-out clause value (which is a mandatory element of a contract) with the Spanish FA.

This is totally different to a release clause (which is optional and quite rare in England). All a release clause does is allow player to speak to a prospective buying club if they meet terms of release clause. All that happens then is proceeds like a standard transfer, but selling club have to accept if terms of release clause met. This is not like a Spanish style contract.

Not to single you out, but I'm so fucking tired of reading this same lazy take every. single. summer. It's unbelievably trite and superficial. Every year it's the same shit, and everyone looks at the table imagining a season in which nobody apart from Spurs suffers any injuries whatsoever, and everyone else's transfers are all competing for the golden boot or ballon d'or.

There is always more competition and opportunity in the League than anybody anticipates. Odds are good that at least two of those teams are going to sharply disappoint compared to current expectations.

I swear there's a disease that some of you folks suffer from. July comes around and half of you act like you want the League to go ahead and declare the winner before a ball has been kicked.
And we should have a bit of perspective too. My Spanish team is Betis who ae about as well supported team as you can get outside of real and barca and have won next to nothing. ever. and can't afford diddly squat.
We have just won a major world trophy and are easily spending 150 million on transfers.

Another day of the usual melters throwing their toys out of their prams as usual whilst pretending they support spurs.

Enjoy that elevated blood pressure you cunts whilst I and us real spurs fans chill the fuck out with some good food and a cold one.

He's meant far too much to this club to be forced out in the final year of his contract. And, again, he was top 10 in G+A/90 in the PL last season so this idea that he's gone to shite is radically overstated.

He's not what he was in his prime. But he's still pretty damn good, and almost certainly provides more value than we can get from the MLS or K League, which are likely the only places he has interest in.

I like the idea of retaining Son to play primarily in the Champions League fixtures. He's a big game player and still has quality that will scare the shit out of European defences - especially if he is 100% fit and rested.

I think any decision ultimately comes down to money. If we value Son at 20m, and with his 10m salary, it does beg the question if that 30m would be better invested in a new player. Spurs have made a pretty decent investment in Tel - but I suspect his preferred position with be centre forward.

Here we go

After several failed attempts down the years, Tottenham have reached agreement with Coritiba for the signing of Leandro Damião da Silva dos Santos. The 36 year old will join up with his new teammates in Hong Kong at the end of the month.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

:frankfacepalm:
