Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Starting to feel like the majority of the fan base have realised the strategies we use to recruit won't ever change.

It's a sobering moment of clarity that will dampen the mood and support around the Club for the long term.

Levy has no clue of the intrinsic damage he is doing to the fanbase.

And he'd do well to remember the Club is nothing without the fans.

Part of the reason whey we are in this mess, is that for a large amount of time, we abandoned what actually made us good in the market.

A club with our restrictions should be focusing on:

1) Young gems from Europe and beyond, who have been slightly overlooked (Modric, Eriksen, Son).

2) young gems from the football league/relegated teams (Carrick, Defoe, Dele, Bale, Lennon, Rose, Walker, )

3) slightly overlooked players who are approaching their peak (Berbatov, Alderweireld, Dembele, Vertonghen, Lloris, Trippier)

4) academy players who either turn into quality first teamers (Kane) or make a profit for the club in sales after being showcased through loans/a spell in the team (Skipp).

The obsession with “ready made” or experience inevitably leads to us signing absolute mediocrity. Doherty, Hojbjerg, Richarlison, Werner. Palhinha is more of the same, as Grealish will be and people just don’t learn this lesson. The more of these players we’ve signed, the worse we have become

The scariest part is that we are particularly vulnerable to this because the club is still scarred by Lo Celso and Ndombele flopping (ignoring that EVERY big team has flops and they still keep going), and the club behaves like Vultures in the market.

This strategy makes sense if the ambition is to sit mid table to European spots.

Teams challenging for PL and CL do more

I mean. Again - I am not denying that club should have done more with this window.
It is reasonable to expect more than we have done and I am pissed that Levy, Lange and co have not added more faces to starting XI by now.

But people really seem bit simple here... if we are talking about Rodrygo, Eze, Ederson, Robinson and Guehi... we are talking about outlay of 90+65+55+45+60 = 315 million euros on top of current outlay of 145 million (!) so in total 460 million EUR.
That would be like what ? Based on my knowledge and estimation, I believe it would be world record transfer window of any club in existence ?! I checked that while Chelsea did spend absurd amounts in 22/23 season, their spenditure was 300 mil in summer window + 330 mil in winter window.

So not really - this is not about "real ambitious owners" stuff. This would be wet dream of 6y kid and something that NO OWNER OR NOW CLUB HAS NEVER DONE IN HISTORY. Get even some little dust of realism here, please :D .
Agree. But that’s what’s needed and how far we are behind our rivals. I don’t expect it, hence why I said 1,2 and 5 options as minimum.

He’s a striker, he’s there to score goals. If he’s not clinical he’s not good enough.
I do understand. I didn't say he was elite. I just know his physical attributes make defenders uncomfortable, which could lead to more chances for others. Even if he converted 30 percent of the big chances he got, that would be ok, for some teams, considering the other things he brings to the team.
I'm not advocating buying him, I just think he offers more than some realise

This.

The 2019 window is one where we genuinely tried to dine at the top end of the market.

And I’ll probably get pellets for this, but I honestly believe Ndombele and Lo Celso were the right players at the wrong time. If they had signed during the stable part of Pochettino’s tenure, I have no doubt they would have been a success.
They signed to play for Pochettino, and mere weeks after they signed he was sacked, and the club spiralled into absolute chaos for years.

They were far too little, far too late.

Its like we are stuck in quicksand.

A bad start next weekend, entirely possible, and nothing to provide belief, it feels like we could easily be in trouble.

With January then 4 months away, and options limited, it could get very messy.

Whilst many might have hoped we found hundreds of millions to compete for the title, I was much more content with vying for top 6.

Right now, I'm not sure we will finish in the top 12, then take your pick.

I wrote it yesterday and I will write it again, Levy's weird aspiration, followed (so far) by arguably the most insipid transfer window for a long time will make or break him.

Are there any rumours surrounding Eriksen now that Madison is injured? Danish national coach Riemar, who was assistant coach under Frank, has stated that if Eriksen is without a club, he cannot play for the national team. Maybe a temporary solution like in Brentford?

Experience. Leadership and know how off the bench and some starts. Makes all the sense in the world. So never happening.

I fully agree - the CL final covered up that the Poch team was already breaking down (lack of activity for 18 months) - the 6-2 at Goodison Park was their last hurrah and the 3-1 defeat to Wolves at Wembley was the beginning of the end.

The chaos ensued because Levy increasingly started chasing short term solutions. Jose, Conte, trying to keep Kane happy.

Pochettino said we needed a major rebuild and it was put off for 5 years.

Paratici/Gabbianini/Lange has tried to go back to this - but we are left with a massive gap in reliable prime age players. I'm not blaming the youngsters at all. It’s just horrible forward planning. Actually horrible would be an understatement. It was non existent for years.

Ultimately Levy has to go. He’s a millstone around our necks

Two fundamental problems

1. You need a buyer
2. You have to deal with Levy

With Ndombele, nobody did their homework on his lifestyle. Once we gave him 200k a week, he was here for the full five. Even if he was playing with the kids he weren't giving up that pay cheque.
Fair I would not want to deal with Levy.

We had buyers after a year for Richarlison, Ndombele and Bissouma we just were unwilling to take the loss.
