Transfers The Summer Transfer Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Agree on Levy's comment, but I think it may have been aimed at some supporters wanting Spurs to spend much more than we do, rather than it being a comment on not growing transfer debt (within reason). Can be taken either way, but I think he's happy to grow transfer debt a bit more (but just my opinion).

You are correct we have lost say £30m odd by finishing lower in PL than last season, but I think its just about made up by EL prize money getting to final which I calculate to be € 35.186m with a further 7m if we win it, and additionally we'll have made maybe 10m ish for the (8 ?) EL home games matchday revenues , so might even be slightly ahead of last year without europe. Expectation of course would have been the EL money was going to be additional to last season's earnings rather than earnings being more or less the same.
I think after coming 5th in the league last season the board would have expected the team to do fairly well in the Europa League, got to the knockout stage, and factored that into what the club is going to approximately earn. Now there is a fair chance we win the Europa League and qualify for next season's Champions League creating more revenue.

I don't like us having the second biggest transfer debt in the Premier League, especially considering that we're not consistently a good team for having it. Our gross transfer debt. figure is about twice as much as the goons.

Anyway thanks for your messages but I need to log out now.

There is little correlation for us on how much we spend and how the player works out.
We often get caught in the worst of all worlds.

Going for the 2nd slightly cheaper expensive option. Our £45m.plus signings work out no better than our £10m or £20m ones

All true for Spurs and many PL Clubs that spending slightly more or less on a player has no bearing on how good the player might be.

Our £8.5m Bergvall seems to have almost eclipsed many of our more expensive signings, so its finding the 'right' player which is key...... and difficult to be sure about. And not on high wages either ....... so that 'universal truth' isn't always quite right either

This is so true... more often than not our less heralded transfers turn out to be better. Take Bergvall last summer and
Both good.... But personally I like Glasner
Glasner is a good shout and I would prefer him over Iraola, Frank, Silva or Hurzeler.

No ? I can’t think how they aren’t

Can you give any examples ?
I was gonna include an edit where possibly you get older players with reduced transfer fees due to having limited sell on but still demanding high wages because they feel they offer that value over the contract

That’s not a model I’d advocate other than debryune possibly

But is that really where you were going with it ?

Other than that top value players are reflected in both trf value and wages

Last 2 years of a contract, player has more leverage than the selling club. They can demand higher wages whilst the club can’t demand high transfer fees.
I get the premise but I still believe clubs still get top money for top players under that scenario

It sounds well and good but in practice I can’t see how you extricate the two

In fact it probably speaks to levy’s downfall that he’s repeatedly failed to the find the cheat code to this immutable law and a good part of the reason we end up with half-baked dross
