Caicedo took a season or so to find his feet.
The issue isn't that the players aren't good. They just aren't living up to the expectations set by the price tag.
Caicedo wasn't that much worse (if at all) at the start at Chelsea. They just expected way more of him based on the price tag.
No idea personally, but I think it's a decent educated guess to make if you presume he doesn't have any ITK info. Unless we sign an absolute gem trophy magnet to replace Ange, I can't imagine Romero would want to risk starting the whole cycle again of likely needing 2-3 years for the manager to really put his stamp on things....
It was also Chelsea were a bit of a mess to start that season. Too much change too quickly.

29 is not old. These guys live like monks, have personal chefs, and sports scientists. Sonny may have lost a step at 32, but he has played way too much football the last few years. Sane is also just a far more technically smooth player than Son, who always had a quite wonky first touch in tight situations.
Different players - Sane has a silky first touch and carries the ball under pressure. Footballer, just turned 29 is a fine age. Son was quality at that age. 3 years of Sane? Yes pls

I know Paratici has been an advisor of sorts the past 1-2 years but if he is back then it will be lots of links to players mostly via Di Marzio and a lot of the players will be more of the Romero, Bentancur vibe. Good players in Italy that either Juventus are selling or we think we can get a reasonable price on and perhaps less of the Archie Gray signings.
If Ange is staying and Mason is off it is clear we will need more coaches, if Paratici is in then I wouldn’t be surprised to see some Italian coaches through the door. I do think we need better coaches, a lot of our players have gone backwards and out of possession we look a mess. If Ange is unable to adapt to this I think his time in the new season will be short.

Paratici likely had a role in us buying Johnson as he went to watch Nottingham Forest numerous times when they were in the Championship, shortly after we bought Johnson and Spence.
Johnson is a good player in terms of goals and assists. He isn’t a good winger though, doesn’t dribble well nor press that well. Seems more like a player suited to a Dele Alli style role than as an out and out winger in an Ange system. I mean he got the winning goal and all but the way Ange wants to play Johnson, Son and Tel are quite odd fits.
I think at least one winger needs to be a good dribbler in any system including Ange’s. Our team was quite unbalanced this year despite Johnson’s goals.
So buying Sane could make sense, if he’s still got that ability.
Odobert was injured for much of the season - something unlikely to have been foreseen as he'd had minimal injuries in last 2 seasons, one in PL with Burnley and before in French top division. And he's definitely the dribbly winger type
Son, Werner, Tel and Moore are all 'speedy' forwards rather than out and out wingers but do add a bit of balance. The issue with Sane could be age and whether like Son he's getting a little on the old side
