Get ready for plenty of press rumours about Romero & van de Ven joining some "big" clubs...

Liverpool have reportedly been handed a major transfer boost as one of their long-term targets in the form of Micky van de Ven is open to joining them.

The Tottenham defender, who can play centre-back or left-back, was first looked at quite closely by Liverpool during his time at his former club Wolfsburg.

Now fresh reports claim Van de Ven is considering his future at Spurs and would be keen on the chance to move to Anfield.

Van de Ven has shone during his time in the Premier League, and it seems clear he’s capable of playing at a higher level than this unconvincing Tottenham side.

Micky van de Ven could be the ideal long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool

He's not going anywhere for fifty six million, for that money they are talking possibly a trip to Asda, or Morrisons.

Maddison, Kulusevski and Solanke will all be back before the end of this season - but currently injured so not playing now as you know.

Spurs have already bought Simons who plays in a similar place to Kulusevski and Maddison.

Our problem is buying more strikers and no 10's as come the summer we will be looking at too many players to fit into the 25 man squad in those positions - so we then need to sell either the players we have now or any players we buy now in those positions.

That usually results in us losing money on players sold, destroys any teamwork e had built up around those players, is a huge distraction from doing deals with other players etc. So the conclusion from that is rather pay £200m or so for more players in the no 10/striker positions, we stick with players we have on board now (even if they are injured) ......... meanwhile any more injuries or suspensions means our already depleted squad (depleted die to injuries) become too small resulting in players being over played which in turn risks more injuries.... the nightmare scenario.

Maddison won't be kicking a ball for us this season.

It's amazing how many, people seem to think that this colossal mess will get fixed in a couple of weeks of a January window.

And then cry and moan, when it doesn't happen.
I don’t expect it to be fixed, but I do expect some progress. Honestly, we’ve been patient and loyal through a lot of bullshit. We bought no one for a while because they were building the stadium. Fine. The. They get the stadium built, raise ticket prices and it’s been comical ever since. No stability whatsoever, and you wonder about a plan of any sort.

So sure, we have a lot of things to fix and one window (particularly January) isn’t going to allow for that. But some progress and some semblance of a plan is not too much to ask for either.

This is by far our biggest need in the squad right now. Pair him with Palhinha and we have two slightly deficient but extremely complementary players.

A passer in midfield would make everyone better, especially our forwards.

This feels like a very realistic spurs signing too.

Us needing midfielders who can pass (and be pressure resistant) is the most obvious need I’ve ever seen, so yes any would improve us but, imo, Palhinha is so one dimensional (and lacking in passing) that he still wouldn’t be viable unless you make him the central pivot in a 433.

Ideal would be buy two midfielders at least, a 6 who can win/pass/carry and an 8, both with some pressure resistance.

Palhinha’s passing isn’t so bad for a destroyer. He brings other things. You need a couple of people with him in the middle who can really pass though

It was so good, that Bayern immediately wanted rid of him. He's absolutely awful on the ball. If he has loads of time and space, he's okay, but when he's pressured, he's like a rugby player trying to play football for the first time. It's uncomfortable.

I think Van der Ven is holding some cards here. Currently our best, most valuable player, the board can't afford to let him go at any price, so he needs convincing to sign an extension. He will probably only do that if the board show ambition i.e. go out and buy some players that are worthy of being in the same team as VdV - or he'll engineer a way out to Madrid or Bayern, and get to play for a real team there.

They risk another Kane / Bale scenario if they don't play this right.
