Whilst I'd choose Anderson over Wharton personally, there's a lot of truth in this post. He’s not amazing at it. Defence is his weakest area. But he’s does do it. People make out he doesn’t move off the ball and it isn’t true.
It’s a side he can/should develop, which is what Carrick had to do.
Wharton has elements you can’t coach or improve easily at all. That level of passing range and someone so hard to press is absolute gold dust.
It's very easy to forget that Wharton is only 21 years old, he's still developing his game as a midfielder.
I can remember when Carrick joined us, he still had a lot of rough edges, which were polished whilst he played for us. It was when he'd done that, and started to look really good for us, that Utd then swooped in and took him as basically a finished product.
Wharton is pretty much following the same kind of trajectory, only I'd say his passing range is probably better than Carrick's was, even at this early stage of his career.
Whilst I'd honestly prefer Anderson, I'd not be unhappy if we got Wharton, as I honestly think he'd develop into a superb playmaker.
We'd just have to stay patient with him as fans, as I don't think he'd start to justify the transfer outlay immediately, but would develop into an elite midfielder.
