It’s easy to wank yourself silly over a manager early doors (we all did it with Ange) but Frank’s start has been very impressive.

To flex personnel and formation is so rare in the modern game where everyone wants to be Pep / very refreshing.

Something Ange did really well was keeping the squad together and making them keep believing despite us being absolute dog shit on the pitch. Obviously he was an incredibly motivator otherwise the Europa League wouldn´t have happened and for that I´m always grateful. That´s why it was good timing to cut ties after the season. Ange left on a high and we could bring in someone who´s very decent tactically while also being a good motivator.

Very good summation. He was given every opportunity, TBH more than he deserved to adapt in the league but he refused to. More than fair that he was replaced.

Listen to what he says on 3:00.

Like I said in the PSG thread, he's still learning about the players - how they cope/react with pressure, games with elevated stakes etc.

Just a shame he wasn't further down the road in this respect; the changes would have likely been different and we would have seen that game through before going to pens.

I'm getting dizzy following his side to side head movements and bouncing.

Haven't even seen the game yet. Was at a wedding... not one of us would have picked that starting eleven but Frank was bold and he got his reward. Was able to get relaxed minutes into the legs of the sub players. Burnley are probably going down but you can only beat what is in front of you. Big test next week but nice start and pat on the back for Frank for hopefully continuing to make weekends fun again.

:franklol:

He was brave enough to check whether we are able to control and win PL game against lesser opponents with Gray and Bergvall in the midfield together. Its very important both for players (gain important minutes, experience and confidence) and for Frank (knowledge how to plan rotations when we will start play 2 games/week).

Great to see he had 2 separate plans for 2 games within 3 days. With such a big coaching team hopefully congested schedule won't be that big deal in terms of tactical preparations.

The step up from Brentford to Tottenham is big and it would be understandable if Frank would´ve gone safe initially but he´s made some bold calls, both today and against PSG, but he´s got it right. It's just refreshing that we have a manager (and his coaching staff of course) that will work his ass off before every game trying to maximize the team´s chance of winning by tweaking the tactics. There will be occasions when he gets it wrong but it´s a nice feeling going in to every game feeling we may actually have a chance, rather than knowing we will lose beforehand, which was often the case under Ange.
The choice of pre-season opponents definitely helped him wet his feet before the real action started.

Three lower division sides to try out a more front foot system. Then Woolwich, Newcastle, Bayern and finally PSG in the super cup to go at bigger opponents.

That's a fair point actually. I was critical of him for the PSG game, and I still think his decisions cost us that match.

As you point out though, he's still learning about the players, and also it's the first time in his career he's had to manage a game at that level too.

Rome wasn't built in a day, and I've definitely seen signs from his first two competitive games, that are very encouraging, even if the Supercup loss still rankles somewhat.

I thought Sherwood did OK with his short time as manager.

Played 28 won 14 = 50% win rate, which is slightly above Redknapp 49.49%

According to their Wikipedia pages.
Sherwood lobbied for Kane's inclusion in the first team ahead of a return for Berbatov.

Did well enough as Spurs interim to be offered the Villa job where he progressed and integrated Jack Grealish into their first team.

Amazed he was never offered further managerial opportunities tbh.

Some sneered at him but I think he understood young English footballers better than most.
