Funny thing is he was quite fancied here when before we eventually hired Ange.
Eh, somewhat fancied.

Like Frank in that same summer, he was thought to fail the "attacking football" mandate that everybody pretended to have as their truest and deepest conviction in the wake of Jose/Nuno/Conte.

Levy's eye for strong and credible leadership from managers continues to be his most underrated quality.

Quite / somewhat.....

Mate that's some micro-hair you're splitting.

......Neither word implies "universally" either.

His stock was quite high on the so-called modern manager list having helped Sporting surpass Porto & Benfica for 3 out of 5 seasons + had the added bonus points of mugging off the scum in the Europa.

It was, and the similarity of his formation to what we'd been building under Conte plus the personal relationship with Porro were big pluses, but it HAD to be "Tottenham DNA" that summer and he was found lacking in that regard, as was Frank.

It was all a bit silly, but that was where this board was at that time.

Now Erik Ten Hag was a different story, everybody LOVED him.

Count me out of that "everybody", ta.... I called it.

So did our board tbf; when they flunked him for his interview.

Having a fit back 5 in Romero, VdV, Porro, Spence and Vic together plus the addition of a midfield enforcer in Palhina has IMO been the key to the way Frank likes to play. Defenses win leagues.

He needs a 10 though as none of the current three in Sarr, Bentacour or Palhina are less creative or are able to break through the lines ala Maddison

The key is going to be how he navigates 2 games a week - he can clearly create and get the get the team to execute a game plan with a week on the training ground - at some points we’re literally going to have one on the grass session between games during October/November.

Good luck to him. 🤞

Amazing how Thomas Frank has completely changed THFC playing style inside 3 competitive games, with barely any significant new players, compared to Amorim at United.
Amorim, let's not forget, has been there for 44 games and spent over £200m on new players for his system and they still can't play football.

Just a few thoughts, random bits.

The Premier League is the fastest, toughest and most intense league in the world and it seemingly keeps moving more and more into that direction.
Over time we've seen so many different styles of play/tactics that have come along to outwit and unserped the previously viewed 'best way to win/style of play'. Tika taka, inverted fullbacks, even 4 cb's in a back 4.

One thing that really jumps out at me currently.
Successful pl teams and those on the rise all seem to currently have one thing in common. They are all big, strong powerful units, yes they can play but i think the emphasis is more sided towards powerplay and physical prowess over having the best technical, intricate type of teams. Its all about the duels, all over the pitch. Just look, nearly every single team is going for long throws this season, a few years ago we laughed at stoke, Burnley etc for using such methods. Its all set pieces with physical monsters.
Prime examples are city. They have incredibly talented players but they can get overrun and overpowered if teams setup right. Without rodri they are so easy to run through in midfield. Of course they will win games but considering the talent they have and the manager they have can we really say its working aswell as it should be?

Secondly Liverpool. Its early days but since they have side stepped from klopps highly industrious 433 with 3 midfielders that are all energy and power they look to have lost the edge somewhat. Wirtz is very talented but what you gain in one sense, you give up in another.
Case in point, Newcastle. A midfield 3 of joelinton, tonali and guimares is just absolute shithouse central. Yes they can play but along with other big units in the team they are mainly physical monsters. Its no wonder why they are doing so well even with players like Gordon and Barnes who dont even score that much.

Im interested to see what direction frank takes us in going forwards.
We are all craving that star no10 to knit things together but what we have to accept is that we have done so well so far through having sarr at 10 with his energy and running power and we will inevitably lose that by changing to a traditional 10. Personally i want a 10 but much prefer the physical midfield 3 and absolute trickery and creation in the wide areas. This would keep us much much more solid and conceding much fewer goals.

It would not surprise me if we did look abit better on the eye with a true 10 but also begin to concede more goals as a result.

adaptability, getting your players playing to their strengths, rather than some silly wedded philosophy.

all systems work, its about having the right ingredients aint it, a proper football manager should see what ingredients he has and whip up the system to suit, anything else is braindead.

There are managers out there who would already start planning their exit after a summer like this.

Conte went sour the moment his first summer transfer window closed.

The funny thing is he said that he's starting to fall in love with this club.

I think fans just generally make much more of the turmoil that goes on in our club, the key is normally to look at the manager's mood, he's happy being here as it's his biggest job and a massive challenge that he's relishing.

We'll see where he is with this club in a couple of years time.

He did say that, indeed.

He’s almost certainly a better person than Conte who was just obsessed with winning and started forcing his way out once he realized it was beyond him to win in these constraints

Ange figured out that only one trophy was winnable under these constraints.

Poch nearly worked miracles. Let’s see if Frank is the final boss and an actual miracle worker

Conte didn't want to be here from the get go and thought he was too big for us. The club have put of that they want to compete in all comps but it's another typical vague statement as we don't really know what it means.

My guess is:

Top 6 finish
Qualify from the CL group stage
FA and carabao QF/SF

They'll be happy with this as long as Frank's goals of impriving the players and maybe bringing a couple of players through the youth system or something...

I think Frank is capable of that unless we have a mad injury crisis like last season.

I shan't pretend to know his track record in this respect; but I've read a number of comments about TF being a big academy guy......

.........Is this true or are people just conflating that former with the broader notion of TF being good at developing players within his senior squad?

Amorim is a fraud, he has no second option. Even playing Bruno, on his day the best 10 in the league he plays him as an 8. Still most United fans back him, his win ratio over a full season is relegation. He is drowning at United mostly due to his own stubbornness as to his style of play. He continues to want a ball playing keeper dispite not having defenders in front of him showing for the ball.

This horrific transfer window failing to bring in any fullback, AM, or wing depth despite losing Madders/Son/Kulu/Udogie to injury will definitely contribute to injuries though.

Our lacking depth will kill us.
