Frank wanted a no10 in his system and knew he needed it long before this match so I'm not blaming him today so I'm not sure you can blame him, it's pretty clear the technical level of the team is still pretty low, Simons will fix that

First blip, and one of many to come in this season of transition.

It will be an interesting listen as to how he saw today and what he will do next time round. Might not work, but it's important to not see that again, without something to address the concerns.
Yeah true. Once my frustrations calm down I'll be curious to hear what he thinks went wrong. That was where Ange went wrong. He would always be talking to his shoes in the interview and wouldn't seem to ever identify the problems. I actually thought Frank's subs were the right choices today. I'd have made the same changes so can't fault him on that.

Maybe conceding a goal after 5 mins completely screwed our game plan. I dunno. But Palinha/Bentancur/Sarr in a midfield 3 is not the answer when you are at home against non-top 6 teams. We looked much better once Bergval was on. Its a lesson learned I hope. Be interesting to see what he says.

Its a terrible trend we have losing before every international break with this group of players. I really hope this trend does not go unnoticed! We have to break this! Its no coincidence at this stage - players are dropping below their 100% level in these games every time. Porro and Richarlison were miles off it today. Richie probably spent the whole week thinking about being back in the Brazil squad. We need to address this. There is 4 international breaks every season and we can't just accept getting 0 from 12 again. This is something Frank and his staff need to be all over and warn the fuck out of them next time.

going with that midfield and johnson, hes shown bournemouth too much respect hasnt he, we should be looking to play football against these sides, yes they are a good side, but with that midfield today and johnson on the left we have played right into their hands.

lets see what the west ham setup will be, that will tell us exactly what hes learnt. i dont wanna see fucking johnson starting and giving us ten men and a huge momentum problem and a midfield with fuck all forward playing quality.

Super post in my opinion. I'm going to read it again before responding.

One player isn't fixing the collective shittery that was today and you know it. From back to front awful. Players just losing every duel and getting outdone. You can't fix creativity with one footballer.

Still optimistic for the season but jeeze, loads of work to do with the squad. Richarlison is a fucking honking footballer for example, same with Brennan.

We have to be more courageous is the thing. It’s not just the players but the setup, we haven’t really got any line breaking patterns or runs forward. Everyone just timid and turgid.

Frank’s clearly spent the summer drilling defensive shape which has benefits but we don’t have any confidence in our attacking play. Part of that is the technical level but most of it is the practising. You go from kamikaze Ange to Frank and this is what it looks like. Need to develop an attacking identity on the fly

Today was poor but it’s GW 3 with a team that finished 17th last season, people who are writing Frank off already need a word with themselves , I’ll admit I didn’t fancy him at first but now he is here I’ll at least give him a good run of games before writing him off.
For the record as well , all those wanting Iraola - he lost 6 and Drew 3 from his first 10

Sure, but Bournemouth don't set up away at Spurs the way most smaller sides will.

That midfield was finding all sorts of joy in possession at the Etihad.

Just kinda speaks to a crap City performance really. Bournemouth were fighting and scrapping and clawing for every ball which exposed our lack of quality on the ball.

The two wins were a shot in the foot. The squad needs a new striker, another creative midfielder or two. Solanke doesnt cut it and when Richarlison isnt performing hes lost out there

Bournemouth did their homework and Frank had no answers.

I'm already starting to doubt him. Today was disgraceful.
We have to stay behind the team and manager but I've similar concerns in home games. We shouldn't be setting up so defensive and then taking our time on throws and stuff. We need to play with a lot more urgency. Its ok to be passive and pragmatic away from home but we need to be able to dominate teams at home. Or else this arrangement won't work in the long term.

In Frank's defence, we were missing a number 10 today and Solanke ended up being a far bigger loss than we realised as Richie just had a disaster. But this performance can't happen again. We are better than this.

Doesn't fix it, we don't look as toothless as we do today

Simons surely comes in vs West Ham.

Confidence in Frank to fix this but he’s probably going to need to be even more flexible than he was expecting because I think he really likes that Palinha Bentancur double pivot but they showed him today how limited they are

Against City we weathered the storm and grew into the game. We were happy to sit and pick them off. The passive and pragmatic game plan was perfect.

Today we didn't weather the storm and were lucky not to be 3/4 down at half time. We got absolutely battered and had no response.

Probably not but we'd still have 9 others on the pitch looking like they can't trap a ball. Even Kudus etc were pretty fucking shit... Palhinha exactly what I'd thought he'd be against a team where he has to do more than put in some challenges.

Need a lot more proper footballers. Simons is a good start.
