Have you seen February's run? Oh Lord.

Where we are in the table now is solely through blind luck, nothing more. If we lose at the weekend, we'll be in the bottom half after 12 played, and most of that was a nice kushy run. Then the narrative will go from, "we're 2 points off 2nd" to "we're 5 points off 5th" and it will continue on until people realise that we're shite and the tide will turn here.

I've got quite the receipts saved up.

Looking forward to us losing so I can do the 'I told you so routine' over folk you'll never ever meet on the internet, what is your life :ange-facepalm2:

Precious internet ego > Club you supposedly support

The funny thing is, when a manager comes in to a struggling team that doesn't have access to infinite resources, things rarely go smoothly. Those that turn it around are given something that threads like this do their best to disrupt. That something being time. Poch had time after some lacklustre work, even Mr Lego down the road had some god awful stuff, early days. If they weren't given that time they never would have experienced the pockets of joy that followed - and this is why everyone rolling their eyes at such a thread have more merit than the few who fight the grain, chests out, being all contrary.

I admit I've been worried about a few decisions and results, but not enough to question the man's position. He deserves the time to get all his ideas across and see how we perform

There is this weird split brain situation where some of those who are highly critical of our player recruitment also choose whatever manager we have in charge at a certain point as their hill to die on, as if the overlap between those who are responsible for the recruitment of these two groups is little to none.

This is definitely the case right now, with denigration of the state of the squad going hand in hand with the exaltation of the manager. Except that manager has also been appointed by those responsible for this squad. And this is not a situation unique to Frank either, as some of the most vehement supporters of the previous manager were also very critical of the higher-ups including but not limited to Levy.

Is it possible for these supposedly evil good-for-nothings to turn into benevolent geniuses when it comes to appointing managers?

It's been played a few times. If going from from 17th, a complete anomaly, to 12th/13th is the type of ambition here, then Frank in.
If the club don't win a trophy, what's the lowest league table position you would accept at the end of the season for Frank not to be sacked, I mean with these players, and Maddison not playing any matches?

I'm thinking for me it's 8th but that might be a bit mean?

Be interesting to also see what's the lowest position other people on this forum would accept.

What’s he meant to do other than argue for what he believes in? That’s his viewpoint, he’s backing it up. You can agree, disagree or just don’t give a shit but you can’t fault somebody for arguing their case.

It’s not like we haven’t had multiple madmen on here fervently arguing that Kane was crap, Ange was great, Winks was the next Iniesta etc. I had to listen to all of that, Frank not being a great manager is a very tame opinion in comparison.
Fair enough, I’ve been outvoted.

Just not a fan of when threads are basically hijacked by one obsessed individual, which happened to the Kane thread, the Kulusevski thread, and now Frank.

I really don't think he gets anywhere a full season.

But good question. It's not about the results for me, if we start producing performances which statistically, are good, but we're losing, we're playing actual football, then that's the litmus test for me.

But right now it's the manner of the performances, it's clueless, aimless, bad at both ends, horrendous in-between. Can't pick a team, subs are too late or wrong a lot of the time. Things I've been concerned about for weeks aren't getting any better, and results are trending the same way. So it's the manner of everything just now. Yes, we have injuries etc etc but having 4 through balls through 10 games of the season is disgraceful. That's a tactical decision which just affirms that if you defend wide and don't concede corners, we're generally not a threat. The only reason we're as high as we are in the league (until the weekend) is by sheer blind luck. We can't keep overachieving like we are on both sides of the pitch. Metrics have us like 15th, which is not good enough, even if it is a 2 place improvement.

Madison, Kulusevski, Son (a shadow of himself), got replaced with £145m (£155m with Tel's mental loan fee), is being backed and it shouldn't be handicapping us like it is. Our attacking players look especially bad because he persists on playing the human hand break every game, who absolutely kills our ability to play out of the back. Our two in midfield typically sit far too low, so our 10's can't get the ball, and when they do, they're crowded out easily. It also means we dick about on the ball for far too long, with players that can be pressed, so we invite pressing teams to get the ball in our final third. Things like this have been so obvious for weeks, yet persist.

I don't buy the argument another manager couldn't do better. We hired a manager who plays rear guard football, yet we're still dreadful at the back, but now just hopeless up top.

Again, he starts to address this and I'm happy, but right now, this isn't sustainable both for his football and for his time here. Fans aren't going to suffer through that football if we're not winning games, like it or not.

Prime example of too much time between games.

It's not about policing threads or censoring anyone, which is for admin only, but the sheer absurdity of the question.

As stated earlier in the thread, entitlement and based on wacky metrics, without measure or balance .

It's definitely frowned upon and seen as way too premature to be drawing conclusions. Any new manager worth their salt should really be allowed to have at least 20 games before any sort of judgements can be seen as holding water. Man needs time to stamp his style into their thick skulls, innit.

Guess you mean 20 league games. Half the season, a decent marker.

The through ball stat today was a bit of a shocker. But shows how Simons is struggling. And how much we miss an inform Maddison.

The premier league stats are just very weird.

Not in the top ten for shots.
Not in the top ten for hitting the woodwork
Not in the top ten for expected goals.
Not in the top ten for interceptions. (Which if you are giving up possession or pressing high you would expect to be doing)

But
2nd for assists.
4th for goals.
Which is what really matters isn’t it?

Then
3rd for corners.
3rd for tackles won.
4th for duels won
5th for successful crosses from open play. (Leeds and wolves are above us and Woolwich and city do not feature in the top ten which tells you a lot about what crossing gets you in the premier league!)

Those stats are definitely not the free flowing Tottenham our fans normally expect. Almost Wimbledon esque.

But the premier league has also changed to a set piece league.

So I can understand the dissenting voice(s) who mainly wanted their Tottenham back.
This is not it right now. Not at all.

However in Franks defence I think our forward line is terrible compared to seasons past. Kudus the one bright spark.

And he won’t get Maddison’s creativity this season so that is one question that really needs to be answered by someone else.

Meaning Frank has his work cut out to make that forward line work. And for that he needs time and the players available, because Richarlison is not the answer. Solanke’s not anywhere near ready. Tel is sporadic in appearances and form. The other guy has broken his face.

Leaves Dane Scarlett.
Who struggled at Oxford. That’s our option.

And come on. The man’s name has to be the biggest spoiler this is the football storyline our manager needs to be running with. Writes itself.

Dane fucking Scarlett. How did it come to this??

Well, thanks for that. Sums this place up. Unable to criticize someone, justifiably, because they're blinkered by the fact he's out coach. Yeah, Frank's not great, but he's fine, and that's okay because that's good enough for us.

Ask Bournemouth, Villa, Woolwich, Brentford, Palace, City etc etc and they'd tell you their coaches are the bee's knees.

But if you're fine with being mediocre, you and your gatekeeping, entitled buds who think they have a divine right to tell everyone if they don't think like you, they're idiots, then I wish you well.
Shut up you wet fart.

Poch wasn't the bee's knee's until his 2nd season more or less. Still had some awful performances, the lose against Woolwich being one.

Your just an impatient twat, that knows fuck all, wanting instant peak Barcelona.

Doesn't understand the current context and situation of the club.

Just fuck off and support a football team that's more suited to you.

Telly Tubby FC.

I share your frustrations regarding our striker options. I had to laugh when I read the other guy has broken his face 😅

I mean you can't make this shit up.
Solanke never missed a game before he came to us.
And kolo was always available too from what Ive read. Arrives at spurs gets a dead leg for 2 months, plays a few minutes and breaks his jaw 🫣

Add to that the false hope when richy scored that great goal at the start of the season.
Solanke I can't even remember his last game for us.

Our only hope was tel to hit the ground running.
And he showed hes not quite there yet so gets left out of the cl squad.

I know nothing new in my post but it helps to write it out. It seems like we will just stumble through this season.
Almost all of our players are either on international duty or injured during the breaks.
So no training at all. We are in europe again so we have a disadvantage when playing most teams like manu last week. Those are not excuses but so many reasons why the football is such a hard watch this season.

And I didn't even mention our midfield

Maybe tomorrow 😜
