Kane had looked like a well meaning and relatively useful donkey prior to Poch joining, nothing indicated he would become an absolutely elite striker, Eriksen had been around for a year and was "much of a muchness" to use Tim Sherwood's assessment of the entire squad whilst he was caretaking, Vertonghen was included in that assessment but had barely looked better than Chiriches as a defender and also looked totally checked out, Danny Rose was not highly regarded at all, and had looked calamitous, he and Kyle Walker both had some the raw makings of decent fullbacks but came on leaps and bounds under Poch.

Main point being, the squad that Poch took over wasn't that highly rated by anybody, he turned it into one where the starting XI was considered top class by most.

That's not to glaze Poch too much, it could have just been lightning in a bottle, a confluence of fortunate events and timing, but he absolutely didn't start off with a great squad.
Kane was the regular England U21 striker. Obviously didn't look elite but he was far from being a donkey. I had heard of him and comparisons to sheringham like player, he probably had Parrot like expectations.

Im not disagreeing with the wider point but this view of kane mildly pees me off.

I don't mean that at all.

But he had a young Kane, prime Eriksen, Lloris, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Danny Rose already very solid experienced players.

Moura, Alli and Son did develop well under him though.

I rate him, but I just think many other managers cop too much on here, when in reality the issue has always been above them.
We signed Eriksen when he was 21. You're just chatting shite.

You do if you win, or if your Trump you just get a trophy for whatever.......

In all seriousness though, he doesn't seem like the guy to leave them in the lurch this close to the world cup
They won't though will they, they're abysmal!

I don't think we'd get him until post-WC though, which is very late in terms of prepping for next season, that's because of the USA and Trump though, I don't doubt that Poch would drop them like a bad habit if he were allowed.

You do start to wonder if Frank was given that Woolwich cup by one of the backroom staff or playing squad at Bournemouth as a set up.

It seems to have been a running joke. Either that or a very unfortunate coincidence.
I said it on the day and stood by it.
At best, it was a rival in a wind up.
At worst it was a plot to get the ball rolling from inside.

He looked good at Youth level, but he hadn't pulled up any trees out on loan before getting a shot under Sherwood.

During that last third of a season he scored a few scrappy goals, but his touch and allround play was nothing like it went on to be.

Whether you can credit that to Poch, or whether it would have just happened under anyone, is open to debate, but again, Poch did not inherit peak Kane, Kane became peak under him. That's a key reason as to why Poch is well regarded by the fans, almost all of those key players went from being "meh" to being top class whilst he was in charge.

Never should have been appointed as Spurs manager, and for Vinai & Lange to take so long to sack him is an indictment on them, absolutely clueless.

What Spurs manager should prioritie defence over attack?
Earlier on during the season, his main tactic was pass to Kudus in wide areas. That was all, shows how clueless Frank is in relation to employing attacking patterns and tactics.

We don't need that many points to stay up, but ENIC have really left it until the last possible moment, and later than was sensible. It all rests on a quick new manager bound with an injury ravaged squad. There is really not much between us, Forest and West Ham from where things stand now.

TBH, although I would have been happy with Heitinger. There is some sense in a much bigger hitter on big money to keep us up. Going down would cost ENIC several hundred million.
This is going to be tricky and I think we will need more points than people realise to be honest. West Ham’s upturn in form has seen them take 10 from 15 points. They need 16 from the next 36 available to get to 40 points which is not beyond the realms of possibility. Forest have been doing ok (8 points from 15) and need a further 14/39 points to get to 40. Leeds also have 8 points from 15 and need a further 10 from the next 36 points to get to 40. Might need to get to more than 40 points to survive

What Spurs need isn't nostalgia (Ponchettino) or star power (Xabi Alonso) or entertainment (De Zerbi), but someone who can stabilize the club and start to ruthlessly eliminate the dysfunction. The team has been a player's country club going back even before Mourinho. Great facilities, the glamour of playing in London, and Levy leaving his door open to players subverting the manager. Now, in an attempt to rebuild on the cheap, Spurs have a very young, very immature team of entitled players. Some are worth keeping around, but many have no sense of accountability and must go. Spurs need a manager to come in and get the players onside. Maybe he will only last a season or so, but that's the work that needs doing first. This team is no where near ready to contend this season or next. Frank is a good manager and a decent human being. If the current squad can't play for him, they can't play for anyone. Bring on the hammmer.
