I understand your worries and I share them but just to a much lesser extent basically sums it up.We have had 3 poor results in 28 (?) this season. 0-3, 6-0, 0-5. Otherwise EVERY other game has been defensively sound, we have been solid, dominated possession and had chances to score (albeit those particular stats are skewed by Townsend :avbfacepalm
Scoring has been our real problem, not conceeding.
I can imagine the City result being MUCH worse. With only Dembele protecting the defence from that City attack how could it not be?!

I think Cap has been struggling since his injury both in the mid and in defence, so bringing on Bentaleb was a good move, and his performance justified Sherwood's choice. I saw more in Bentaleb's performance to make me confident about him making it in the Prem than I have in Carroll's. To me Bentaleb and Holtby would be fine in the mid along with say Chadli and Eriksen for the West Brom game.
Re AVB, I was thinking all his plans went awry the day he chose to play Rose v Tromso. A small matter you'd think, but the consequences cost him his job. Devil in the detail, butterfly effect, just plain bad luck, whatever. More gutting for me than costing AVB his job, is that it lost us the lge Cup tie v West Ham in all probability.

Just woke up. All I can say is Levy has played one thing right and based on his post-match interview I'm sure Sherwood made a point of this - giving him 18 months instead of until the end of the season means the players know who they are playing for, they need to perform not just plod along until the end of the season.
Absolutely don't know where to start with this. Quite simply I think this makes us look like a fucking laughing stock. The gooners are absolutely loving it. We sacked Redknapp on the premise that AVB was an upgrade. When he turned out to be a failure we pulled the trigger. Ok, that bit I understand......but we sacked him for a man with no experience whatsoever???????? It's like taking a cornershop owner and placing him in charge of Coca Cola Schweppes because he's had some experience selling fizzy drink cans. Why the fucking hell did we even bother with Redknapp or AVB? We should've just given the job to the bloody cleaner!
I admire all of you trying to stay positive and like others I hope, by some miracle, Sherwood delivers the goods. But I'm amazed so many of you can't see how ludicrous this situation is. I can't say I'm optimistic, especially based on the woeful defending on display so far in Sherwood's two games. I guess time will tell, but those pious types pretending there is nothing to be concerned about with a manager with zero Premier League experience really need to stop and consider whether or not this man is remotely in the same league as the people we have sacked. Remember, AVB was a title winning manager and Redknapp had a history of saving clubs from relegation. There was a pedigree there for both. There was a reason to be optimistic in both cases. But this is so random and gambling I'm really struggling to see what has convinced Levy that Tim is the man.

Just my theory, but I think the 18 months is a tactical move on Levy's part. This way he doesn't piss off Sherwood's mates behind the scenes and cause unrest, but if Timmy turns out to be average then he can pull the trigger in safety come the summer with the knowledge that he can get someone like LVG in.
Conversely if Timmy somehow manages to do the business then Levy is in a sound position come the summer.
Not really. He has zero experience. I would expect anyone in such a position to understand that he is untried and untested and use a six month contract to show why he is worthy of more. Any first time coach worth his salt would see it as a golden opportunity.
Like I said above, the 18 months stinks of a tactical move from Levy. Either that or the club is pandering to Sherwood's ego. Don't want to judge Sherwood too soon, but the whole "I need a contract" shit to the press this past week give me bad vibes. Got no problem with confidence, but there's every chance he could come crashing down once he realises just how hard the job is. Another reason an untested manager is a huge risk. I just hope Sherwood doesn't get ahead of himself.

I have to agree with penpen.
A 6 month contract would have sent a message to the players that they could walk all over the man. Just because he's got an 18 month contract doesn't mean that he'll serve every day of that period. If he doesn't work out, then I expect we'll be seeing a new manager before then...
18 months and the players should feel that they need to get behind the man, or else not treat it all as a joke. Any less and they're liable to do just that.
The club can eat the cost of an 18 month contract a lot more easily than they could that of Capello on 4 years, for example.
6 months is a joke. Even Sherwood deserves better than that.

I understand your points. Yes, this situation is ridiculous. It's tough being a laughing stock, but by and large I won't give a single fuck if Sherwood manages to deliver. I don't wake up in cold sweats at night worrying about what the Gooners think of us. We were already becoming a laughing stock. Nothing has changed in that regard.
The back-line looks ropy as fuck, but Sherwood has managed to inject some of the most exciting attacking play that I've seen since Bale left. For that alone I'm willing to get behind him for the time being.
Sherwood or not, when Vertonghen comes back from injury I expect we'll be due for a run of good results.

Cap that with the return of vertonghen and we will be fine. There was no need to play with two DMs the way AVB did. He played two at struggling Fulham and it was ridiculous.

I,m gonna allow myself to believe in Tim Sherwoods, own self-belief! I like that he knows the club and by all accounts has done a fantastic job behind the scenes and is well respected at the club! Hopefully he has the right combination of passion (not in question for me) and nous (time will tell) and we see it reflected in our play and the results!

Just finished an 11 hour nightshift and find out Sherwood's been given the permanent job.
Too early to judge his management ability obviously, but his interviews and comments have made me less than pleased that this contract has been given. Reminds me of Harry 'the messiah' Redknapp regarding the media manipulation.

If you would of told me 6 months ago that Tim Sherwood would be appointed Spurs manager by Xmas I probably would of slapped you with a wet fish but things change in football and under AVB we were getting worse and worse. I actually liked AVB and was not jumping with excitement when he got fired because I felt sorry for him and really wanted it to work but his stubbornness got him the sack just like Redknapp's mouth got him the sack aswell. The tactics were poor and it was probably the worse footballing Spurs side since the old 90s dark days early prem era and AVB had to go.
Tim Sherwood on the other hand doesn't have the experience we wanted that but was a breath of fresh air the other day against Southampton. He has bought Adebayor back into the fold which so far has proven to be a masterstroke and could well save our season if Ade continues his form. He went extremely positive aswell and finally went for 4-4-2 in which it payed off. It wasn't a perfect performance by all means but that was the most excited I have been watching Spurs all season and it felt like spurs back in the Harry day "you score, we score more" . He took a calculated risk by brining on Bentalab and it worked brilliantly. Let's give Tim a chance and if it fails we move on and go for someone of high calibur in the summer. I for once can't wait to see what Tim does and know for a fact Westbrom home next we will attack them under Tim the spurs way and frighten the life out of them. Could you honestly say the same if AVB was still in charge????
