Ex-Spurs Player Toby Alderweireld

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He’s been very good overall, especially for his age. Again, I didn’t say anything different.

I contend he wasn’t great against Juventus, although did post in his thread that I wouldn’t expect him to be flawless against such a fine forward line. Yes, he did keep a clean sheet against that lot, but he made a couple of errors and he’s got that in him. He’ll iron these out as he gets used to the league, country and team mates. He’ll be a fantastic replacement for Toby in the future, I’m sure, I’m just not convinced he’s an upgrade on Toby in a few months time.

We could go in to the new season with Toby, Jan, Sanchez and Foyth.
Or we could end up with Jan, Sanchez, Foyth and Dier.

Option one is clearly better.
Don't think anyone has suggested he's an upgrade, but a more than adequate replacement.

He’s not that either. Not yet I don’t think. And even if he were, my main concern isn’t the drop off between Toby and Sanchez, but in our depth. I’d be happy enough going a season with Jan and Sanchez playing every game, but that’s not going to happen.

Just now we have two world class centre halves, a young star of the future and an inexperienced youngster. We are willing to trade one of the world class ones for a central midfielder with concentration issues?

So he wants 40k a week more??? That's just over 6m over his whole contract. It's total bollocks that we can't afford that. I don't believe it at all. We will instead let him go and lose a lot more then if we signed him up then sell after a year if it's such a financial strain paying that extra 2m a year. Fucking sell sissoko to find it.

DO NOT LET TOBY LEAVE!!!

If we were negotiating in a vacuum, then yes, pay him that. But then the other top players want the same rise, maybe even more. We’ve got maybe 8 players that would be at his level, so so that’s £16m now. Not chickenfeed.

And we've already saved ourselves £2m by not agreeing a new contract with him last year! We did the same with Eriksen who's contract negotiations went on for two years, therefore saving us a cool £5m over that period. So, just with these two players we have saved £7m and they are both still Tottenham players, imagine that.

I think he wants £100,000 pw more. We’ve offered £60,000 pw more.

Especially as he still has a couple of years of his existing contract. There is no way we’d lose any player on a free. Why dish out pay rises when they’re not currently necessary. Do we know for a fact Toby is agitating for a move? He’s obviously happy to take home what he’s currently earning. Once the season is done the club have a better idea of their budgets for salaries and transfers.

Starts to make my piss boil when it’s put there in black and white. He’s turning down £60,000 a week pay rise. A week...
Just thinking out loud here, but if we let him see our his contract on his alleged £50,000 a week, then he’d need a whacking big contract elsewhere to make back that “lost” £60,000 a week wouldn’t he?

Agree. If he goes how much will it cost us to replace him? A lot more than the additional 40k a week.

Oh ffs it was an honest joke. Do you know what a joke is ? Probably not. Generation snowflake by any chance. ?
A joke, huh? So, you get banned from this site for racism and either seek or else are compelled by your workplace to undergo a period of rehabilitation. Then, shortly after having your posting privileges here restored, you joke about how you would like to socialise with what police believe is one of Britain's most prolific child sex offenders. I imagine you'd have pissed yourself laughing if I'd suggested I join you and that we should bring Barry Bennell along, eh?

I'm 48, so probably not what you think I am, but I'd rather be think like a snowflake than have your demons whizzing around inside my head.

Starting up again are we Captain *Mainwaring: This is the Mick Cooper Mick Cooper we all know the obnoxious, self righteous toad who just has not learned to respect any poster on here. Unreal.
(edited by Joe Clash Joe Clash )
Wrong you boring little liar from down under.
It's just drongo's like you and mindless mindblown that I have no respect for.
I get along fine with anyone who doesn't talk crap to me or try to put me down. It's quid pro quo sunshine. Play nice with me and I'll return the compliment.
You don't know how to, so you got all the respect you earned.

In all fairness our salaries are in keeping with our financial well being.
If we had just "paid them what they wanted" for the last decade, there wouldn't be a new ground.

It's not just about Toby, or even Kane.

This club will leave a legacy and if Kyle Walker or whoever don't want to be part of it, and want "what they're worth" in Manchester or Spain, then as far as I'm concerned they can just fuck off.

The whole thing has so many similarities with Rose......aren't we 15 games unbeaten and on our best run under Pochs era in terms of results in massive games.

Where was Toby? Nowhere really expect a shit performance against 4th division oppo.

Not slating him, but this is a squad, and Poch has made it clear that if you're not in, well, you're out.

And I for one applaud it.

One of your best posts ever!

It's clear there are negotiations going on, hence the stuff in the press, I'd suspect that the latest one of "us prepared to sell", is put out by us rather than by him. The other stuff has been put out by him I assume. There were similarities with stories about Eriksen before he signed his new deal.

He's a terrific CB, there are two clubs that I can see who are in the position to pay him a massive salary and that also need a CB and that's Utd and Woolwich. The Woolwich one would be interesting because a) Would he go, knowing the abuse we give to Judas b) Would they really pay us £60m'ish for a 30yr old CB? c) would we sell to them anyway??

If he's sold than it will be this summer as that means the buying club lowers their risk of buying a player who is 30, the risk increases with every year. It also means we also will get a higher value too. If he's here in his final year of his contract then I still think he will go for more than the £25m buyout as I think there would be competition for his signature, may be not from Utd but from a whole host of other PL clubs looking to feed off the scraps and will make him their star signing and pay him accordingly e.g. West Ham he would fit perfectly into their model like Zabaletta, Hart, Lil'Pennis & Arnautović etc...

I think we are in the driving seat more than people give us credit for.

I do hope the increased revenue we’re making will help us have the capacity to pay him more. It seems he does want to stay which is a good start. Like others have said if he goes he must go abroad. As Carragher said ‘why would anyone want to leave this Tottenham team? If it’s a case of the diff being 30/40K extra a week, I’m sure a compromise could be reached.

*also lads if you’re posting in this and it’s not about Toby but some back and forth bullshit personal stuff - fuck off will you! Message each other. No one else gives a shit and we’re here to discuss one of best players not wade through pages and pages of your treacle. You’re the only ones who care. Give it a rest.

Sorry mate but the line "billionaire owner and dip into his own pockets" is utter nonsense. With the exception of PSG and City and Chelsea about 10yrs ago (the Russian is still owed £1b!!) no owner does this. It's not what happens in any form of business be that football or otherwise.

We ARE being left behind by City & Utd, that is the fact and that will continue to remain as the fact (they are also pulling away from Liverpool, Chelsea and Woolwich), their revenue will continue to rise, as ours will also do, but they will continue to pull away despite our improved revenue growth. I'm not having a pop here but your expectations are way, way off kilter. We will close the financial gap to the other clubs but not City or Utd they will continue to pull away, the gap will get bigger not smaller.

But despite this we have beaten City on the pitch the past few seasons and we are beating Utd on the pict this season as well as in recent years. The formulae we apply will not go away, it will be reapplied because it's working, it's evenied by all bar a few clubs in World football, so much so that even Real Madrid envy what we are doing and rumours are they want Poch so that they might apply the same philosophy seeing that they have invested massively in youth in the past few years.

So what does all this boil down to? We will have closed the financial gap to all our rivals in the PL with the exception of City and Utd. and I think PSG. We will have closed the financial gap to all other clubs in world football, specifically Juve (we will overtake them), Barca, Real Madrid, Bayern. Meaning that the capacity for all these other clubs to buy our players is significantly reduced. So just how many players will City buy from us all at world record fees? The biggest threat we have as I see it is Utd., why? Because they are clearly still and very underwhelming side, their entire defence is pony, in fact look across the entire squad it reeks of average.

The pool of clubs who can afford our players is getting smaller and smaller. Finally, our model is the envied one but no-one talks about this. The narrative that feeds us all is we must pay more to stop all our players leaving. No-one has even bothered to ask the question how have Tottenham been able to hold onto their players? This should be asked because we have only lost one player, meanwhile Liverpool and Woolwich continually lose their best players every single year, add Barca to that list too. The constant narrative is driving the fear of our fans, yet there is zero evidence to support this fear, in fact we continue to improve, we continue to buy well and develop and keep the squad together. Take a step back and reevaluate Tottenham and where we are in the competitive landscape, we have nothing to fear, we are the club that is feared.

Can I just say fantastic post this is what this forum should be like rather then the child like arguments I’ve seen on this thread.

I agree with your points and like I said before I can see how far we have come as a club over the years. I’m only 23 years old and have supported spurs for 14 of those years properly, so I can just about remember us being truly fucking shit, so I fully appreciate how much we have improved and how much we seem to want to improve.

But I feel I need to clarify the Lewis comment. I’m not advocating him making us like City with him pumping the cash in to artificially elevate us.

I was just mentioning that if it comes to it I see no reason why he shouldn’t invest enough to keep our best players on improved contracts whilst we wait for the benefits of the new stadium NFL deal and sponsorships to bear full fruit. Meaning he would then never have to do so again.

And the reason we have kept everyone is due to Poch, he’s got them all bought into his vision of what we can become as a side if they all stick together. Just a worry if we lose him it starts a domino effect

Unless of course he is a nonce as well as a racist cunt. he certainly got very defensive when I said he was on par with a pedo.

its all relative though isn't it - you are not looking for £60,000 a week more, you are looking for parity to others who are at your level. The vast majority of players would be happy with £800 p/w if that's all that was in the game and everyone else is getting similar.

In every other walk of life market forces rule, he has no real ties to the club so the same applies here.
