As I've been saying for a few weeks, the standards of our play have dropped considerably post-Xmas. The possession and use of the ball has got so sloppy and laboured at times.

First 10-15 mins we just weren't at it, at all. They are a decent side at knocking the ball about, they actually knock it around sharper and quicker than us at comparative bests tbh, and were making us look silly.

After that don't think they've played well at all, they've gifted us the ball in their own half on numerous occasions and in transitional scenarios, we've just not managed to do anything with it and make a fair amount of pressure tell.

By far the biggest problem for us currently though is in midfield. Maddison and particularly Bentancur are nowhere near up to speed yet and can't really hack the intensity and pace of it. We've had a few weeks of evidence of this now. When the midfield is not at the races it is hard to win football matches.
 
Bentancur and Kulu haven't really been at it recently... Is it a Juve thing?? Do they usually drop off in the New Year???

My hunch is Bentancur STILL isn't 100% fit and is a shadow of the player he was pre-Leicester last season... Villa really fucked him up too...
He's just not been right since.
 
It is a bit hectic but we have absolute no excuse to not have at least 1 goal on the board. I think we will see an early 2nd half flurry of pressure but if we dont convert the match will likely get away from us.

Fucking pathetic state of affiars that these kinds of bullshit scenarios should be so common and so completely accepted in the game.

Ditto tactical fouling etc. etc. etc.
 
I expected that half tbh. I think we have some better individuals but Brighton are a better footballing side than us. Surprised some thought that this game would suit us more than the Everton one. Son will be on probably Pierre for bentancur too see how it goes.

People can blame injuries but players are back now and many of the teams we’ve been meh against have also been missing key men.

We seem to be producing one good and one terrible half .. so should be in for better in the second.

Injuries, referee decisions etc...it's part of a football season, every team has to cope with that...and we ain't even the ones who've suffered most.

You still gotta find a way to produce. We haven't been doing that for ages...why? Lack of energy, focus, composure, fighting spirit? I do wonder.

But it's on the players & coaching staff, nobody else.
