I think what we're really seeing play out here are the two ends of the fan spectrum...

Those who have been brainwashed by UEFA to think the Champions League is the BE ALL AND END ALL OF FOOTBALL...

...and those who remember a time when local RIVALRY was the be-all and end all!

The funny thing is, those convincing themselves they wouldn't mind us winning and going all out for Fourth, even if it helps Woolwich are also typical of fans bemoaning the fact that Man City have ruined the game as a competition with their untold wealth...

Well what the hell is the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE if not a money printing machine?

To be honest, I'm still not totally comfortable with the idea that a team finishing 2nd, 3rd OR 4th can enter a competition with CHAMPIONS in the title!

We have no place being there yet...
Let's win the League first, before we start worrying about how we'll fare in the Champions League!

I'm more than happy with the UEFA Cup (yeah, you heard... Europa League indeed!)

...and if it means our nearest and 'dearest' rivals don't actually WIN the league, then all the better!

Money wins out in the end these days... and both Man City & The Champions League have it in abundance... They'll be just fine without us!

But as for the Tottenham Woolwich rivalry... It's something money just can't buy!

The Saudi league really showed up how many players would be just as happy playing worthless competitions in front of empty stadiums for the right price. Wages > CL football.

They will probably be on big bonuses for CL qualification, so I think a Villa win tonight nukes that incentive.

Sounds true. But City's drive to win the title will undoubtedly be higher than our players'.

maybe leverkusen have just been managed right? not sure what alonso done with them in the group, but the extra games and playing on thursday has done them no harm at all.

end of the day we are suppose to have a good squad, we should be getting out of that group by giving minutes to the fringe and youth without damaging qualification or league position. all comes down to having a manager that knows what hes doing.

id rather win the europa league than finish 4th if thats the options next year anyway! no brainer.

We'll never be managed totally right though, will we?
And that's the issue. We'll all be happy we can use a cup/competition to bed some youth players and we'll go OTT and then go out.

I just don't see why we can't give the kids/fringe players more minutes in the league more often. We can have a couple of the bench most weeks and bring them on for progressively more minutes. We don't need a 2nd rate European comp to do that. We didn't know to what extent Kane would be 1st team ready until he got league minutes.

Well it stops with us competing at the highest level, building a team that wins things , attracting players that want CL, playing at the highest level and competing.

I want us to win tomorrow and make the CL, I want us to compete at the highest level and, who knows, maybe we can win trophies. To do is to dare. We need to change the mentality of this club. In Ange I trust and COYS

We might not want to win but the players won’t think like that. Not as if many are even English .

Most seem to be talking as if a EL place has already been achieved whereas that’s far from a given indeed get nothing from the next two games and depending on how Newcastle perform at Utd & Brentford and Chelsea at Brighton and home to Bournemouth could see one of or both of the clubs currently in 6th and 7th position finishing on 63 points and both w probably have a better GD.

Strange post.Makes up something that won’t happen to make a strange point. My point is we will never win a title under enic/levy as it’s not important to them. How about we have a bet? You bet we win a title under enic/levy? I bet we don’t? Because it seems like you think it’s realistic we could.
You think winning a title is important to enic/levy, I don’t. We will have to agree to disagree.
