Watched Johnson closely and he really just jogs about. Offers nothing in closing down abd doesn’t really help out in defence. When he has the ball he more often than not loses it or makes a shite pass. He may have scored some tapins but is generally woeful. When you watch him live this all too clear. I don’t like turbo but he does actually offer a threat running at players but crossing is pants. Ange said we needed to upgrade our attack from last season but we haven’t.
I Think Odebert causes havoc last night if fit and available

I have been defending Johnson a lot, and ulike you I think he is a decent player, but I will agree with one part of your post. He doesn't offer enough out of posession, and need to be taking much more responsabilty defensive wise.

Like you illustrated, jogging around after losing, or still being close to, the ball. He needs to have this adressed and fixed

1. With Doku, Grealish and Savinho injured he didn’t want to risk him.

2.He’s an arrogant twat who wanted to make a point of winning the game without him and embarrassing us.

I don’t think Pep wants to embarrass anyone , he just wants to win but he was willing to sacrifice a cup that is not really high on his list . There’s no dark arts in his thinking , just priorities

Maybe he is a bit arrogant (most top level managers are) but I doubt number 2 is true tbh. League cup just his lowest priority and understandably so.

Which is why getting City wasn't such a bad draw for us! (Also we own that pathetic mug club :dude: )

Third match thread, undefeated so far...
Why haven't you done a Villa match thread yet?

We can't expect Werner to turn into Haaland after his goal against City but that doesn't mean it can't be the start of better things. That goal will have done wonders for his confidence - if we can get behind him, it might be something he can build on.
Werners pace gets him into some fantastic positions , if only his final ball or finishing was better he could be a real asset . IF ONLY !

The team they put out was still very much Guardiola Ball. I did not see any compromises in their style of play at all. As far as I'm concerned, we beat Pep Guardiola's Man City. Full stop.

And, as others have said, we rested players as well,so it was very much a level playing field. It wasn't our first team against the kids.

Agree. Those Man City youngsters are through many years well trained to do exactly what they did yesterday. Play the ball quick, keep possession, move it from side to side looking for the right opportunity. They stood no chance to our pressing in the first 20 minutes. And in the end, we had a some clear goal scoring opportunities.

We played for 40 minutes with Davies and Dragusin. Started 18 old Gray on rb. Still, even with all the possession, they managed just 3? shots on target. Werner is not our first choice either. And neither is the recently long term injured Richarlison.

Great win.
