Re: AEG takeover rumours....
With owners, isn't as it's always been??
Alan Sugar comes up as a very contentious figure looking back at our past, some say his management team did not respect the history and values of the club, all things considered that's fair criticism. What he did though was set Spurs up as an investible business, he bought the club for £8m and sold it for £50m, that's canny regardless of some of the football played in that era.
As fans, there is very little we can do when you consider the kind of sums of money involved at the top end. When you look at ENIC they are just a different scale of investor and now, as a club, we are going to be the target for venture capitalism. The important question is how much value ENIC place on the club, because if the club is bought by an investor they will levy debt against the club's value.
This is why a lot of good businesses go bust, not that they are not profitable, someone has overvalued how much revenue it can pay back to cover the debt. This is why when you look at Man U and the Glazers they have banked on Manchester United to pay back all the debts created by buying the club. If ENIC get greedy and overvalue the club whoever takes the club on next will be fighting a losing battle to fund the debt to buy the club, replenish the squad and fund the new ground.
Venture Capitalists are good and bad, they have no connection to our history or identity but it is in their interests that people turn up and the side is successful, they know they have to invest.
All a bit souless I know but it sounds like AEG want to retain Daniel Levy and whilst not perfect, I think he's overseen one of the best periods of Tottenham's modern history, certainly isn't time to give up the ghost yet!
