I like this...........

There are some great achievements highlighted in that piece. 11 students from this years graduates have earned places at Oxbridge. That's incredible for a state funded establishment. It does seem that the intake is heavily weighted and you only get a place if you are deemed within the brightest of your year group, but even so, a real good news story.

My favourite quote...

“Our top Sixth Form College has the country’s current top football team as its business partner. Housed in premises within the new Tottenham Hotspur development...."

Would be interested to know if we support the less academically blessed kids of the area with opportunities like this. There are plenty of kids who deserve the chance to excel in the areas in which they are naturally blessed.

Absolutely true that it's weighted on ability but the process of giving kids from an area like Tottenham a fighting chance has to begin somewhere.

I do hope too that kids with less academic ability are given opportunities in other areas they may have skills.

Ultimately though, for any state school to have 11 students moving on to Oxbridge is pretty good, for that school to be in Tottenham is utterly remarkable.

It's an interesting topic especially when you view it as oversea supporter (from a family who supports Tottenham from afar since 1950).
I think a football club is to a degree the spiritual property of its community and supporters (that's why I think every club should be 51% owned by a supporters co-op). With the white flight London had most of the old residents are now probably in Hertfordshire thus the community-club link is severed. Despite the fact I'm not British and will probably never live in Tottenham I feel like the club should take an active role in the community life of Tottenham and establish institutions to affirm the link. Plus, well a dump, Tottenham has the sociological traits the creates good footballer (ethnic variety and poverty). In the long run it could benefit the club to have a series of football academies in the area and links with the local schools (I think Tottenham should reserve a number of tickets in the new stadium to local youth) and harvest the talents in the future.
The problem is ENIC and levy don't give two fucks on the supporters so they certainly don't care for the area.

Just reading this thread as it popped up again.

Interested to know if your view on Enic/Levy has changed for what they've done for the community.

I would say we as a club seem to be at the forefront of what a club does for the community.

Spot on!

I would hope that from this the Colledge grows and also starts to act as a beacon to parents and kids as something that's possible or attainable. Growing up in an area and within an environment where there doesn't seem an obvious opportunity or pathway to something not even considered as a possibility, might now provide a bit of hope.

I would hope that the schools in the area can also use it as a tangible achievement, perhaps they can visit it understand what makes it tick, work with them for mutual benefit (mirroring their own 6th form on theirs and/or providing students for it).

The next step would be to take an investment approach, by ENIC. Back the Students in their ventures when at Uni, provide them with seed investment capital for those that develop their ideas into a business, have that business nurtured in Tottenham in start-up camps. In 20yrs you would hope that Tottenham would have gone full circle and have it's own business infrastructure up and running from people who went here, supporting the vision of the wider development of the area and accelerate it by not relying solely on the efforts of a football club.

The one thing that stands out when to go around the stadium on a non-match day, is the volume of kids wearing The Foundation tack-suits, they are either coming or going to the Foundation premises, it's really quite impressive and something that was never present before the Foundation got it's new digs.

Long, long way to go but wheels are turning in the right direction.

Absolutely. I was very happy to see how throughout the construction and afterward the club increased their engagement with the local area. It was very lacking in the last years of WHL
