People on here were frothing at the mouth with Conte for not giving "club signing " Djed Spence a chance.....

So those same frothers are gonna give "Big Ange" a pass though

:harrylol:

It's funny seeing the inference being taken from the omission of Spence. All I'll say( and I say it with a heavy heart) this is the club that screwed up the loan so badly they had to give a player away. I look at Alfie Devine's situation the retention of Werner Foster and Austin's contract...and in all honesty I see people who are bordering on utter incompetence.
Yes said that in another post that the running of the football side is pants. It’s mind boggling some of the Des ions. Why left Alfie go on loan? He could have provided good cover in EL games. Yet we keep dross like Werner. We will never have a core of HG players as the club seem intent on getting rid of them as soon as they can. Just like the history. They’ll be happy to spend £30M on a 19yr old from Burnley but send our best youngsters out on loan.

How many youngsters have the club given away that have gone on to look like they would have been good enough to play for us all along? Maybe Marcus Edward’s would get a squad place

Meanwhile we have bought an incredible group of youngsters in Vuskovic, Gray, Bergvall, Odobert who look like they will be in this side for years to come

Or in the side until the point they are sold at a profit ?

Cynical I know.

I would us to be able to play the second 11 with the kids as subs in most of these games, BUT as we all have seen over the last 6 yrs or so those in the second 11 treat any non EPL game as punishment games, they treat it as if they are too good to play this lower team, and then we have to bring on the big guns to try to save a game

A lot of that second 11 simply weren’t good enough and have left

We don’t have any big guns

yes lots of changes to second 11, But is there an ingrained mentality problem at the club ?
look at weak mentally we are (been that way to me since we lost to derby 3-5 aet in early 70's when we were 3-1 up)

Edwards and KWP stand out as the two that couldn't have been worse than the succession of players who've come and gone since their time with us, Cirkin as well perhaps could have been adequate too but think his leaving was more due to personal reasons tbf.

The young players signed is interesting, as it's exciting yes, but they're clearly given preference over academy players of the same age, and so at some point you wonder if it is going to deter younger players from joining the academy as not only is the pathway to first team being blocked, it's being blocked for an even longer time by young signings.

The Spence omission from EL continues to baffle me. If Forster is going to sit on the bench in Europa then it was pointless, if we are wanting to rest Vicario then realistically one of the other two should be capable of getting us through the group, else they have no business being at the club, they're 25 now not children, and even if the intention is to play Forster then it would be less baffling to leave out Vicario for the time being.

This was a good opportunity to get Spence minutes, rest Porro or Udogie for a player who may have some longer term value to us.

If Spence's attitude hasn't flared up again leading to this, then I'd say the chances of it doing so now have increased significantly, and I'd be understanding of it if so tbh, this must be pretty demoralising for a young player who's tried to knuckle down and been given some encouragement, only to then have this opportunity snatched away in favour of a past it journeyman keeper.

Some of you sound like Spence is a £60mil buy. If he's what reports are saying in having his attitude improved and caught everyone in the club by surprise in how well he's come back, I'm sure he will have a good part to play this season, probably more sub appearances in the league and more time in domestic competitions.

Not saying this is you - but why should someone who doesn’t go to any of the Europa games pre the final then get first dibs on the tickets for the final - how is that fair?

So they go to league games but not cup games but should get tickets for the final - bizarre. They are more deserving because they went to Woolwich/Chelsea/West Ham at home rather than Qarabag/Elfsborg/AZ at home - please explain this one to me.
Whilst I have some sympathy with your argument I'm afraid it wouldn't make any difference to your situation. I'll explain why:

There are 42,000 season ticket holders and many (>35,000?) will have held an ST for >5 years (only points earned in the last 5 years count). Of those probably some 15-20,000 are Gold ST holders, which means that they are obligated to purchase a ticket for every home cup game (domestic and European), so even once the few thousand who didn't attend every home EL game have been weeded out there would still be many thousands more ahead of you in the points table who have attendend almost every home league and cup game for the past five years than tickets available for the final . You would therefore have zero chance.

Unless of course you are suggesting that only attendance at EL matches counts and that a ballot for tickets takes place. But how would that be fair?

Personally i would drop Richy from EL group stage squad. He is again out for couple weeks, and we really could give his minutes to Lankshaer. With Son and Deki as emergency options as 9. Odd decision to drops Spence, and our goalie situation except Vicario is utter mess.

Think the gold st number is high. It feels like a new set of people in the stadium when I go to a cup game.
