It absolutely sucks to have dropped 5 points and may bite us in the ass. And we have some really tough games after the break.

But…
I think the team is close to breaking out.
Our play has actually been quite good overall imo. Yes, need to convert chances. But we are getting in great positions consistently. No longer are we passing it along the perimeter ad nauseum. We do need our wingers and strikers to get in position for the crosses. And the 3 goals we’ve conceded were daft concentration lapses. But our set pieces - on both ends - look much improved.

So despite the frustration of dropping points we shouldn’t have, I am excited about where the performances can go.

Agree

Think Solanke’s sensible % play will help but players like Son, Kulu really need tk snap in the final third and make sensible, quick decisions

I agree too.

And this may also be an unpopular opinion, but I actually think Johnson does get in the right positions when balls are coming in from the other side. It’s just a shame that his finishing is not great.

I see that Depay is a free agent, I wouldn't mind us getting him as another option.

Definitely look good performance wise bar defensive brain farts killing us

I know we lost the game but there aren’t many teams that will dominate at Newcastle as we did, probably only us and City actually

I had to do a double take when I saw this. Unbelievable! A positive thread started on this forum! I reckoned I'd better get in quick with a 'like' and a response before it all turns to shit.

I wasn't alone in saying this, but we actually did do that a lot against Everton. Our goals came from isolated incidences of us stepping up the gears a little bit. Outside of Solanke's shots against Leicester, we didn't have too many direct chances.
We did have more decent openings against Newcastle but lacked a player to take the chances. It's debatable whether Solanke or Richarlison would have got something from them.

It's also debatable whether we're playing better football or whether teams have figured out that letting us have the ball isn't such a bad thing.

When we win, yes. When we lose, no.
Same probably applies to most football fans up and down the country whoever they support.
Did you honestly *enjoy* watching us, the spectacle of our football under the early tenures of Mourinho and Conte?

I watched out of a sense of duty because I'm a Spurs fan. I rarely enjoyed the experience. And we were top of the league.

It’s fine whilst it feels like we’re building towards something. The problem is if it continues all season, we finish 7/8th and Ange gets the old heave ho and we go back to square 1.

At some point we have to turn the domination into points. The Newcastle game was a very easy one for me to get over - given we had been spanked up there the previous 2 seasons and the performance was much better. It’s the Leicester game that still niggles me, we should have been about 4 goals ahead before they equalised - can’t have a season of fucking up that many chances

I absolutely fucking loved the first season of Conte.
More so than the early and late stages of even Poch.
It did get a bit dull in the 2nd season when the same 11 was getting carted out and the defence was brittle as fuck.

Unpopular opinion? On here?

- We're ridiculously unlucky not to be on 9 points this season and have been the far better team in each of the three games.

- The underlying statistics tell us we are unlucky with the results and it's much more telling and better for our future that we're dominating but not quite getting the results than playing poorly and scraping wins. Because eventually it will actually click.

We're an entertaining team to watch....for neutrals.

For the prices Spurs fans pay, surely we should be expecting more than that?

Maybe we'll be a good team in 2/3 years time but right now nobody is scared of playing us.

Or, alternatively, it just means we're all style and no substance.
We're easy to play against as long as teams stick to their game plan.
If Everton were less of a shit show and played with a coherent plan, we might not even have a win yet.

I agree with this

I think we’re too easy to play against.

“Sit back, congest the box and wait for them to fuck up” is pretty much what every team outside of the top 4 is going to be told.

Yes some of the football we’re playing is great to watch but our forwards are struggling to breakdown the low block and the way we play will always make us vulnerable on the counter. If our forwards become more clinical in front of goal then those defensive frailties wouldn’t matter as much.
