Player Wilson Odobert

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

No joke the way he manipulates the ball is pretty special. He uses every bit of the ball and every part of his feet at his disposal. It’s a subtle thing but once you notice it, that quality pops out. He goes inside and out, cuts left or right, I’ve seen him initiate dribbles with the outside of his left foot FFS. Such a quick decision maker and defensive information processor as well. He really is a complete dribbler, he can go whichever way he wants.

Technical skills are off the charts. I’m unsure about his long term position but the raw materials are there for everything. I wanted to be pessimistic on this one but I think Lange has unearthed a gem here.

I wish he was 20% faster or stronger but he is young after all. Still the PL experience will be invaluable for him. There will be turnovers as he seasons himself but not due to lack of touch, more due to outsized ambition. I’d much prefer those turnovers than Son/Johnson type turnovers where they can’t control a simple pass and take huge heavy touches into nowhere. Not so with Odobert.
Thanks for the post, very insightful and good analysis which is good to read on a player I actually don't know too much about. From the clips I've seen posted on here he looks like he could be a decent player for us. Not too much pressure on him either which is something I think will help as we already have a number of decent players in his position too.

He's an intensely dislikeable, creepy human being with all the charisma of your average bit of discarded snake skin, its not baseless or unreasoned. He's weird. He came across as even weirder in that amazon doc, like an alien imitating human life.

There's a lot of reasons to generally not like him and when you don't like a bloke you don't go "fair play satan, you did make a coffee for me that one time" instead you assume they probably spat in the coffee in the first place.
Levy is Satan?
Go outside for some fresh air.

Staying here. Junior suite with terrace balcony and hot tub 👍🏾

We stayed at a hotel close by last week. Adeje is worth avoiding unless you want a few cheap pints watching the football, Caleta is a much nicer little village with some good restaurants, short walk

Del Duque beach is decent too

He’s just not really a ready made winger as he’s only 19, that’s the issue. He has, in my view, absolutely everything needed, but at that age it’s very difficult to expect him to become a difference maker immediately.

It’s Tenerife, full of chavs. And you. I definitely don’t want to go there. I prefer Bali or the Maldives personally.

Save up a bit longer next year and go somewhere decent.

Enjoy that hot tub tho…

:paraticiwink:

I love the Maldives 😊 Kuredu Island is great.

Understand what you mean about Tenerife. We are staying in the posh bit though - La Caleta.

Fuck going to playa de las americas!

uh yeah and if you compare him to the average winger (say brennan johnson) they're in the 25th percentile or so lmao, not the 1st! Even his own teammate Koloesho (who isn't particularly good) isn't anywhere near as demonstrably bad as that.

We'll see with this guy. I wasn't hugely sold on the brief bits I saw of him last season. He can take a man on and that's good as we really lack dribblers who open teams up, but there's a shit load of rough edges to hone out if he's gonna be a diamond.
What are the rough edges in your opinion, from the brief bits you saw?

Not a snide comment btw but I just listened to Harry Brooks talking about him on the Lab thing with Flav and he was talking about the things he needs to improve but other than that I've not really seen anyone say anything tangible to say he needs in his game technically and pretty much everyone seems to say his decision making is already well ahead at 19.

The only downside of this is I think his skillset kind of overlaps with Moore’s, who is our best prospect. Unsure how we’ll handle their minutes. Maybe move Mikey central long term?
Odobert seems to have dropped centrally a bit at Burnley based on the highlights. So he could be the one making that move long term.

And Odobert seems pretty able to play on the right as well as the left. So maybe the plan is to have both of them as dynamos operating off either wing.

Well that came out of nowhere..
Makes a refreshing change to be honest. Mooted transfers seem to last for weeks these days until completion. I remember in the 80’s and 90’s quite often not knowing about who we were linked with until reading about the actual signing in the morning papers. Might be wrong as it was a long time ago but I seem to remember knowing nothing of our interest in Gascoigne or Ginola until being pleasantly surprised to learn of their signings in the morning rag. Let’s just hope he is as good as them 🤪
