Player Wilson Odobert

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It’s compared to all midfielders (i.e. DMs, CMs, all central players etc), which is why he’s first percentile for touches as well. Come on you’re smarter than this.

If you want to be negative fine but this is piss poor reasoning, it’s more a function of how crap Burnley were last year and his role within that team. The data that clubs actually use isn’t available on FBref.

Burnley fan weighs in on his weaknesses. A 19-year-old who's soft physically isn't a surprise, it should improve with age, decision making is harder to improve.

I thought this came through on his highlight videos.

Often does a good dribble and shifts away from his man but doesn't fully get away and then the clip cuts off, presumably because he gets tackled.

He doesn't strike me as a winger than leaves defenders for dead over long distances but more the type that will drive into the box and be dangerous in tight spaces, win penalties etc.

I knew fuck all about this kid, so am offering no opinion whatsoever. No idea if this is genius business or an expensive Nkoudou. To that ends I've watched the YT highlights and looked at some Fbref metrics.

The 1% progressive passes is v Midfielders, which is hardly surprising considering most midfielders jobs is to progressive the ball, he's a forward who's receiving the progressed pass ball in the final third from the midfielders. Compared to other FW's he's in the 71st percentile.

His productivity (goals/assists) is pretty shit, but for a 19yo kid playing for a relegation side, his XA is probably more worth paying attention to and it's in the top 3rd in the league.

His off ball numbers (those limited in nature that are available) suggest he works off the ball.

I've done a comparison of Odobert v Neto v Mudryk

He actually comes out top for XA (Expected Assists) progressive carries, Successful carries, Passes into the box.

If he can convert that into actual assists with better forwards than he had at Burnley, might actually be a decent bit of actual non obvious (presumably data backed?) recruitment.IF...

What I would say is, this is exactly the profile of player - technically proficient, ball carrying take on merchant who can play either side and go either direction we needed desperately, Whether he's the one....fucked if I know...

Gray ,bergvail ,odobert all good young players but will hardy make a massive impact right now ,we needed up grades on players like ,Emerson ,skipp ,bissouma ,hoijberg , Johnson ,Werner I’ve seen no players right now that have signed that’s going to help the start 11 other then Solanke .we should have been strengthening the first 11 not spending big on the future .

I think we have upgraded on those players mentioned tbh.

nah.

He didn’t exactly trust young players last season, although the young ‘club’ players may have changed his mind in pre season
But he is now demonstrating that he is open and accessible to embracing change which includes changing his mind, especially with Spence. This might piss off Maddison, who just thought he was the man at one stage before he got injured!
