Player Xavi Simons

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It's the perfect time and place when it works. but you have to do it for it to work. He won't pull it off everytime, so you have to allow for when it doesn't as well.. I just like that he has the confidence and ability to have a go.

Just not the ability to be two footed!!

It’s a strange oversight from the Barca academy.

Although Messi was so one footed you can understand a generation of footballers not being overly fussed about practicing with both feet.

I think Simons might take off next month. Feels like he needed them few games just to get up to speed with the league.

We've seen glimpses of his quality but the penny hasn't dropped yet. Funny feeling we could have a superstar on our hands. We've some big games coming up next month - hoping we see Simons step up and become that clutch big game player. A player who can win you a big game in one moment.

Anyone who has watched forwards, especially those of Xavi's build, come to the Prem from Germany over the last 5 years or so would know this and would have patience and understanding as they get up to speed with the pace and physicality and overall quality of this league.

You only have to look at some players that aren't quite cutting it here that go the other way and rip it up in Germany to know this too.

Not sure why anyone expected anything else?

Weren’t you saying before Leeds that he’s too weak to play 10 in the PL so needs to stay out left?

If it wasn’t you, there were definitely a few in this thread repeating that line.

Funny how one game can change so much

Yup I was underwhelmed with his first few games but just have a feeling he's growing into it and this international break came at the right time.

This is not going off any evidence at all. The evidence so far is that he's struggling to deal with the demands of the prem. But I've a really strong hunch that this international break came at the right time and he could take off next month. Its more a gut feeling. I just woke up with it this morning lol

Struggling is a bit strong. Adapting is the right word. Of his 4 PL appearances, 3 of them have been good, with an assist in his first one, the sub appearance vs Brighton was game-changing and his best performance so far was Leeds away. Wolves at home off the left was really the only one where he struggled.

He definitely has more adapting to do but if anything, it's been an encouraging start to life in the prem.

Yeah I think the Wolves performance was the only worry where he was stuck left and his touch was off all game.It was hard not to overreact after that performance and there was concerns over why Frank was refusing to play him at 10.

I think the break has come at the right time and he's now had plenty of prem experience. I expect to see a much better player after the international break and I'm hoping he really takes off now and has that Van Der Vaart effect.

There's no way a new player fresh from the BL is going to stamp his mark immediately. The football is so very different.
Give him some time and I think he will be tremendous. Just got to get familiar with PL football.

I've been critical - he wasn't acclimating to the prem seems like he is now.

The silly Rabona??? don't care about it, he's been doing that at RBL - sometimes maybe good sometimes maybe shit!

I like the showboating - means he's getting more confidence as long as it's recoverable I'm fine - no biggie for me.

Bu bu bu it may have led to a goal! man how fukked up passes that aren't rabonas get intercepted or given away? nah man keep it up XAVI, get the confidence up I'm here for it!

Looking at his stats a little more :

The 22-year-old has featured as a left winger more frequently than as an attacking midfielder, although the numbers suggest he is far more effective when operating through the middle.

In 51 appearances as an attacking midfielder, Simons has been directly involved in 40 goals, scoring 22 and assisting 18.

On the left, he has contributed 18 goals and 18 assists in 61 appearances, while his output across other positions remains modest.

My conclusion is that Xavi is not a traditional no 10 or Maddison look alike which many seem to want to slot him into that position.

I think it may take a number of matches for Frank and coaches to figure out where and how to play him - and it maybe we need to almost 'build the team around him' rather than assume he's just a creative force when his goalscoring stats are so high, and higher than no of assists he gets which is not typical of a no.10.

You clearly don’t play FM25 mate.

He scored 5 goals on his debut when I put him in a 1-2-3–2-1-2-formation behind Kudus and Scarlett.
It’s not rocket science this football malarkey. Easy peasy.

Took Stevenage from the conference to winning the champions league you know.

None of this taking time to get used to the league bollocks. Smashed up Barca and Juve at the Lamex.

Funnily enough the beta for FM26 is supposed to be out today. They skipped FM25 because they just couldn’t finish the game.
