People really need to get “the first ten games” out of their heads for players and the team generally. We were an unknown quantity. Then other teams hadn’t done their homework and figured out how we play. Then we had the element of surprise on everybody and that’s never gonna happen again.
It’s either going to be games like today or games against other teams that play like we do - Brighton, Liverpoool, Woolwich, City etc where the games will be more open but we’ll have less control.
We don’t need our 6 to be a Rodri/Pirlo hybrid. Just do the job of helping us transition to the other more creatives and be defensively sound. Bussoums’s ideal for that remit. His defensive metrics are outstanding his carrying (pressure resistance) is good and his passing put of pressure is reliable.
We need to improve the 8’s (or the right one first) and we definitely need a massive quality upgrade in the attacking positions. Even Son isn’t ideal for this system.
His performance yesterday went very much under the radar. As the 6/single pivot that allows the likes of Maddison and Sarr to play more attacking roles, he invariably won’t get much glory, but quietly nearly everything we did went through him yesterday.
Nobody on the pitch saw more of the ball (108 touches) and nobody got anywhere near the amount of passes he made 96 @97%. (Maddison 65, Sarr 36)
He also covered Villa’s counters very well, and nobody made more tackles for us.
Others will get the glory yesterday for moments of brilliance, but he was very much the glue that joined it all together.

Agree, perfectly timed tackles all game. Interceptions and kept the ball cycling.
Would love to see him carry the ball a couple times a game but he’s back on form imo.
He made 1 error in 100 minutes, otherwise he was foot perfect helping us to play out of defence and breaking up Villa attacks. Not a bad game...but not the player that was seen in the first 10....
Correct. One bad pass. I thought he controlled the game along with VDV and Romero in the first half. Second half everyone stepped up a level and as soon as the first went in it was game over.He made 1 error in 100 minutes, otherwise he was foot perfect helping us to play out of defence and breaking up Villa attacks.
