We signed nobody which everybody knows=
Fulham(12)
Pikeys(10)
Huddersfield (9)
Goons(5) that’s how many signings they all made yet we’ve played 2 won 2 and they haven’t !
Don’t know if that says more about us or them?

I think it says a lot about the importance of signing the right players rather than signing a lot of players. The more players you sign the more time it will take for them to gel and click with each other. But if you sign only a couple but have them well scouted and know that they will contribute and fit in with your squad you will achieve better results early on and it will be easier for the new signing to assimilate with the squad.

Spam in particular were extra stupid with signing multiple players that can fill the same position/role. That's just bloating up your squad.

It also speaks very well of stability and cohesion.

As preparations go, our pre-season couldn't have been much worse, but our first teamers are generally able to pick up where they left off from last season as they already know each other's game etc. (See Dier interview).

That make's it even easier to shake off early season rust too.

Yup. Many of the guys in our team have been here for 4 or 5 years now and they obviously know each other so the amount of time it needs to re-click will be minimal. Even Lucas is more in sync since he had 6 months with the squad even if he did not play a whole lot.

Well that’s fairly spot on I’ve always felt that the players we buy are for a specific roll not just bought for the sake of buying (exception Sissoko) on our transfer thread which in hindsight was waste of time:sneaky: Gareth Bale was touted regularly probably more in jest and hope rather than realistic! But would he have suited us? We are not an all singing all dancing superstar squad we,in my opinion are a team of down to earth quality players buy in a billy big time and it upsets things not that Bale is like that(personality wise) fitting him in could have had an adverse affect.

Yep. Regular training with the squad too.

I'd say even Sissoko was bought with a purpose, we did buy him after a hot Euros campaign. But he was probably a second or third choice on the list. And Poch has done a good job converting him and find a role for him as a versatile squad player/spare tire. And Moussa should honestly be complimented on not throwing a fit and instead bunkering down and doing the most of it. He's a level below most of our players but most big teams tend to have one of these squad players that are used as a spare part/supporting act (Fellaini at United is a prime example).

But you are spot on overall with your point about us being much more about signing what we need instead of just signing these days. Our squad is good enough now these days where we don't need a whole lot of new additions each summer. It's more about cultivating what we have and finding specific players that can play a specific role and directly enhance us instead of just enhancing us in general.

Which of course makes signing new players a bit trickier.

Signing new players a bit trickier! It certainly will....but in Poch we’ve got a head start in finding them.

Our next big infrastructure project will be in our scouting system if I have to guess. We are still a few years off of being able to lock horns with the infinitely rich clubs of the world (if we ever will be). So we will have to be smarter. We will need to put together a scouting team that can find these top class players we will be looking for. Or players that are not quite there yet but who just need a bit of fine tuning.

Another option could be to look for more Lucas style signings. Talented players who have what we need who for one reason or another end up disenfranchised at their old clubs that we can then make a swoop for in January. Then you give them the spring season to adapt to our play and the club at large and then let them loose in full in August.

My hopes were that, by virtue of our recent evolution, we'd be able to trump the likes of BVB, Monaco, Napoil, Sevilla etc. to snare some of the hottest young totty.... No such signs of that happening yet tho'.

Duking it out with City/RM/PSG over fees and elite players is a pipe-dream.

Also sounds a tad like everyone's deadline-day favourite; VDV

Makes for a very Poch-friendly player profile when you consider they'd be likely be turning their back on easy money and easier trophies.

Can see this being more of a thing for us over the next couple of years.

Balotelli extends his contract with Nice with 3 more years. So Nice will be the club he has served the longest since City.

And West Ham's plans to get him on the cheap in January go up in smoke.

Not so fast, Brendan Rodgers will get himself sacked at Celtic by Christmas, replace Pellegrini and he can then bring Mario on loan. Next he can bring in Sturridge and the Welsh Xavi.

My French is not that good it seems. It is not a three year extension but a one year extension, which will be his third year at Nice. The point about it being the club he has served the longest at since City still stands tho
