Manager Mauricio Pochettino

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Bookmakers have reacted to the latest loss to Inter by slashing the Argentine’s odds to be the Premier League’s first managerial casualty of the new season, with William Hill now pricing the former Southampton boss at 25/1 for the chop, in from a whopping 66/1

Mauricio Pochettino’s Odds For The Sack Slashed As Tottenham Bid To Avoid Worst Losing Streak In 14 Years

Sky did a bit of a hatchet on him earlier too.
Yeah... good! Fucking cunts. 3 defeats and its already started!
The short-termism, panic stations, baying for blood knee jerk attitude that is KILLING football!
The fact that ONE of those defeats was in the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE... into which Poch has got us for 3 successive seasons now, matters not one shit.
We lost A CHAMPIONS LEAGUE match cos we're IN the Champions League... it's not a relegation 6-pointer!
Yet tgis is enough to suggest his job is now on the line...

Fucking pricks... get a life and fuck off!

BRING ON THE SIEEEEEEGE MEBTALITY,
I'M FUCKING READY FOR IT!

I've noticed a trend, not only in this thread, but accross others, with lots of people saying how we're lucky to have Poch.

Now don't get me wrong, I've been one of his biggest supporters., but why should a we be counting ourselves lucky to have a manager with zero trophies on his cv managing our club?

Surely it's the other way around! Poch is fortunate to have the honour of managing such a big and illustrious club as Tottenham Hotspur?

It's yet another example of our own supporters being stuck in this plucky little tottenham mode.
This I'm just grateful to see us on the same pitch as Barcelona bullshit.

Is this really how we should be thinking of our club? And then we winge and shout like toddlers when others take the fucking piss.

I get your point but I think it's a 50:50 call here.

I doubt any other manager would have been quite as successful or willing to decline offers for their services.

We are in a good place I feel but not a place which can be taken for granted by anyone.

He may have sworn last night, but his demeanour seems overall pretty positive to me.

From his own words, he was quite annoyed after the United game because of how easily it could have been thrown away in the first half. Conversely, I think he knows the performance last night wasn't bad at all and could have gone entirely differently. I respect him a lot for not letting the hype of a fortunate win paper over the cracks or the disappointment of an unfortunate loss be turned against the team.

But this was our best performance of the season. Inter did fuck all, Vorm wasn't called on to make a save all night until Icardi's shot. The result it a bastard, truly gutting and made all the worse because we played well. I agree with what Poch is saying.

Just as I completely agreed with what he said after the Utd game, we were so fortunate to win that, we shouldn't have won that, the result didn't reflect the performance, we were diabolical in the first half and much improved in the 2nd, but still leaking chances on our goal.

I agreed with what he said following the Watford game, our attitude wasn't right.

IMO nothing in what he says is out of place given the performances.

Okay, here I have to respectfully disagree with you.
As I see it - football match lasts until ref blows the whistle. And this very-very weak crumbling in the end was part of the performance. Just like our inability to finish chances was.

My tounge will never twist to say that such thing could be good performance. Specially if it happens time and time again in important matches.

I just don't care if we play absolutely mindboggling football and score 5 goals within 80 minutes if we fall to pieces with last 10 and concede 6. Just like you need to actually run the whole lenght of the marathon and cannot say you had "spectacular run" when you will get hammer at 30k mark from first place and step aside...

@John Thomas:

It was a great chance for a relatively unproven manager like Poch to manage a club like Spurs and overall he has been doing good, I think both parties should be content, but it's not exactly like we won the lottery and should be thankful for our luck everyday, there is still an awful lot of work to do and we are still waiting for our first piece of silverware since 2008.

We are lucky to have him. We’re not as big as you think John - It’s down, down, down without him. Name another manager who gets results without investment? You should be careful what you wish for. Some of you have such short memories. We’ve won the league twice in 136 years - we’re not regarded as a powerhouse club, however much you try to dress it up.

There is a strange revisionist mindset amongst some - it’s as if the Redknapp years never happened. The actual reality is that we have been a side pushing for a top 4 finish since 2005. 13 years on and that still remains the primary goal of the club - the only difference is the level of consistency has increased in the last 8 years. Pochettiho is a vastly overrated manager - undoubtedly a good coach but he doesn’t possess any of the ability some suggest he has. The simply reality is that he has had one of the best squads in the league for the 3 seasons and yet we haven’t really come close to winning anything and I don’t see that ever changing to be honest. It’s the Redknapp era being played out again and yet for some this is as good as it gets. Odd mindset.

I'd say finishing in the top 3 of a league, dominated by teams who spent hundreds of millions, 3 times in a row for the first time in over 4 decades shows Pochettino's worth.

Luck works on both parts here.

Are we lucky to have Pochettino? Yes. Football is all about luck. We're lucky he decided to take a gamble and come to Southampton otherwise we probably would never have got him and we'd never have seen the team that's got us to where we are today. We may even have still been a team with zero identity, floating around between 5th and 7th, HOPING for that taste of Champions League.

Is Pochettino lucky to be here? Yes. He was a gamble. In terms of full time managers, Pochettino was the first manager we hired since Burkinshaw, nearly 40 years prior, who had won NOTHING managing elsewhere before coming to Spurs.

I believe in Pochettino. I believe in his vision. If we don't win a trophy under him? It would be a shame. But I've said my peace on trophies and that they are not the be all and end all of football nor do I support Tottenham for the glory of trophies, they come as a bonus. You know what would be a bonus? Pochettino winning a trophy with this club.

But I cannot name another manager out there who is available or gettable who would come in and do a better job and no one can prove otherwise.

We didn’t have one of the best squads when he arrived. He forged our team - if you can’t see that you’re an absolute moron. Now he’s got to do it again, but this ‘he inherited one of the best squads in the league’ stuff is just nonsense. You’re a low quality troll and a ghastly pseud. Just fuck off you illiterate wanker.

Even if we did come "relatively close to winning something" The next narrative would have been "we haven't won anything".

The fact we have supporters like that is baffling. As if we some divine right to win things on a consistent basis.

I know a load of gooners and not one of them have mentioned the FA cup wins after the day they won them

The league tells you who the better side is and it’s been us for a little while now

Man Utd sacked their manager straight after an FA Cup win and like you say not a single football fan would tell you Woolwich have been on our level or above us for at least 5 years. Within that time they've won 3 trophies to our none.

Tells you all you need to know.

We could win the league cup this year and all you'll get from a group of Spurs fans is "Tinpot trophy"

Who says we have a divine right to something? What is actually being said is that when we have this level of talent available- which negates the financial disparity between us and the elite it’s only right that there should be expectations to capitalise on that. Clubs like A. Madrid and Dortmund did just that we haven’t - and not only that some to revel in this supposed glory period. I guess it’s too soon for some to see this but give it a few years and there will be plenty who will acknowledge the opportunity missed.

First club to do the double
First English club to win a European trophy.
2nd most prolific FA cup winners pre ENIC
4th best supported club in Europe last year.
Highest English attendance record holders.
Former transfer fee record breakers.
Supporters clubs all over the world despite 3 trophyless decades.

There was once a time when clubs got their highest crowd of the season when the Spurs came to town.

We're not the plucky little over achievers you make us out to be, either, Joe.

I agree with some of what you say, but I think you overstate the quality of our squad the last 3 seasons.

I don't think any other manager would have got this bunch of players to finish top four 3 seasons in a row.
And so long as we're run as the business model ENIC have us to be I think he's the best man for the job.

But I respect your opinion. I just don't see any other top manager working under the financial constraints that we have at Spurs
