It’s not entitlement at all. You can’t class finishing top 4 for 4 seasons in a row success if you aren’t improving on it. A CL final is special, but I wanna need win the final. You don’t get anything for runners up.

well it is....

you say that like in the years before this period we were hoovering up trophies and titles in the 90s and 00s.

People have no perspective other teams are able to improve too. you're too busy judging stuff in a vacuum.

Winning trophies is very difficult unless like City you can afford to buy anyone you want and write off 30/40% of your signings over 30M.

Live in the real world, we've done well we're having a poor season, that's it. Finishing 2nd one year doesn't mean you can demand to win it the next.

Blame who you like, but Skipp & KWP have been handled dreadfully.
You can not compare Skipp and KWP. Skipp still looks very promising, is 3/4 years younger than KWP and Poch got the boot before we could see what he had planned for him.
KWP is 23 and never, ever looked like he was going to be good enough. Be honest, what qualities have you seen in him over the past 5 years that made you think he would make it as a top level right back?

They didn't have to be top quality to compete (and save us a ton of money) with the likes of Sissoko, Aurier, Nkoudou, Njie, Moura, Foyth, Sanchez, Bergwijn did they ? Surely that's the point. Use the academy to fill the squad roles for free (money and HG) and use the money to buy better quality players, not ones that are barely better than the academy ones you have already for free.

And players like Onomah, KWP had their development ruined by Pochettino - they missed out on playing proper football for 3 years and a crucial stage. This kids might not ultimately be good enough for a top 4 team, but neither are the likes of Sissoko, Aurier, Moura etc, that's we aren't a top 4 team anymore.
Barring Nkoudou and Njie, to say that any of our academy players would come close to the quality of any of the other players you mention above is nonsense. And don’t get me wrong, that really isn’t fucking saying much about the quality of said first team players.

This feels like a Mou's boy signing. I've defended Dier because he can do a job and as a squad player he's fine, but he's not been able to repeat his workmanlike performances from 15/16 at DM and 16/17 at RCB in a few years. He's not a starting CB in a back pair and he doesn't want to play DM. Granted, a lot of this is due to injury and illness, but he's not the type of player Spurs should be concerned with locking up long term.

That being said, just because he signed a contract doesn't mean he can't move on next summer.
As a friend of mine once said, having Eric Dier as a squad player is fine in theory. But the problem is if he’s a squad player, there’s always a danger that at some point he’ll have to play..

He was a PL football manager. Not a fucking PE teacher.
Are you honestly saying the likes Marcus Edwards and Cameron Carter Vickers would have taken us to higher level then we achieved
Get a fucking grip, man.

I think wasting £100,000,000 on players, when we had youth players capable, is bad business.

He was a coach. His job is to coach and he did a fucking awful job at coaching our young players. Simple as that.

They've both been sat around doing fuck all during key development years when they should have been playing.... Somewhere. That's what they have in common.

Ummmmm.... KWP won MOTM twice out of the few senior starts he's had. Done well for England in his age group... Maybe he wouldn't have become an elite player but he looked like a decent prospect.. You're crazy if you think spending the last 3 years pulling splinters out of his arse hasn't massively derailed his development as a player.

Watched the highlights from the 11 vs 11 today. Ndombele played a more advanced role with 2 midfielders behind him and looked a lot better. He scored a great goal, real good footwork.

Dele scored for home team, great header from an Aurier cross. Ended 1-1.

Playing behind the striker might be the best place for him. But he’s not going to get in in front of Dele unless he posts spectacular goals/assist numbers.

I think part of the challenge/problem is the complete lack of investment in the DM spot since 2017. Dier has better positioning in front of the back 4 than the rest of our options, which means that even if he is slow and can't complete a forward pass, he's still better to have out there next to an Ndombele and/or Lo Celso than a Winks or Sissoko.

Given the uncertainty around revenue streams for the foreseeable future, it's not shocking that he is getting a new contract, although his does not expire until 2021 and losing Dier on a free is not something I would consider particularly damaging.

I haven't seen if it is announced, but if it is just extending him through, say, 2023 on slightly improved wages, that would be fine and frankly he's not going to get better at the moment, but I am worried it's going to be significantly longer/more expensive because he speaks Portuguese and Mou likes him.
