Rose is still at the club and has said that he wants to stay. So if he does then LB is taken care of.

And as I said, Tanganga has been fine at RB and can work as the backup for whoever we replace Serge with. I'm not disagreeing that we really need to bring in 2. And if there wasn't a pandemic we probably would be.

What are we even arguing about?
The pandemic is no excuse for our scouting failures

I'd say getting replacements for Dembele and the not so committed Eriksen were bigger priorities at the time think they tried to do that.

Back up for kane has been an issue for whatever reason but in all honesty is only a problem when he isn't fit. It's a risk.

And I think there trying to sort the full back issue now.

I don't think we're going to see both flanks having marauding full backs like under poch.
Jose seems to like Davies and is happy for only one FB to attack.

RB is our priority and will be sure it will be sorted before season starts

Eriksen was still on the team when we made those signings so not sure why his replacement was a priority. But even if that was the case we still had no DM options. So that was a major miss not adding anyone who could play that role.

It isn't only a problem when Kane isn't fit because as we have seen overplaying him is a reason why he has struggled to stay fit and had to come back too early. We also have struggled to score goals in lesser competitions when not playing him.

If Davies was a Wan-Bissaka level defensive FB I could see passing him off as us only having one FB attacking and the other hanging back but Davies is not good defensively. The only reason he gets talked about being able to do that role is because he is better defensively than he is going forward, but he is still a poor defensive FB compared to other guys out there. If we replaced him with one of the many rumoured LBs available we would get an upgrade in terms of going forward and defensively. Also, even if Jose wants to play an unbalanced FB attack I can't see why he would prefer to have a FB that is basically useless going forward. There are going to be times when you need both FB's capable of playing attacking football.

Is he keen or is it make do and mend? I have my doubts about Mourinho but if we appoint someone like that we have to back them. Doesnt mean £50m signings but we need more depth at fullback and forward at the very least.

Someone like what? Perhaps Jose the coach is set to prove a few doubters wrong......

Talk was of him being keen on both even before the window opened so it's not exactly been forced upon him by a state of emergency.......

You've changed your tune.... What happened to the 'Levy hiding pots of cash and lying about covid' theory?
I don't recall him saying that. In fact I don't recall anyone saying that.

A manager who has always spent and had big squads. Again i cant see any evidence that he is keen on Gedson as a right back but is doing that at the moment out of neccessity.

Rose is the solution to our LB issue?

A guy that is not good enough for Newcastle to want, not good enough for any team to take off our hands for basically free and a player that has said he doesn't want to play for us anymore?

Tanganga is "fine" at RB because he is better than the nothing we have there. He isn't a RB based on his skill set, it is not the spot we are planning or hoping to develop him at and he doesn't play RB because his skill set fits there. He is an RB based almost entirely because we have a need there.

If he is the back-up RB that means he likely has to play there as a starter for most if not all EL/Cup games from the start of the season to Christmas. That likely means zero games for him at CB in those competitions to help develop his skills at that position.

It also means that we likely don't have a RB in our system developing to potentially take over when the New signing moves on or if they don't work out.

It seems like such short term, poor planning to go with Tanganga as the #2 RB.But very much like how this club has been run under Levy filling holes in the dam with paper rather than addressing the issues properly.
I think if tanganga does play there will be the more defensive full back and tuck in to make a 3 a the back

I understand your concerns about him not getting a lot of game time but it he could learn a lot there especially in 1v1 and defending in wide areas. He has physical attributes to play there occasionally he's quick enough

Well it wouldn't be a surprise if one was expecting it would it? :)

Well reports from the training ground during the end if last season were that Jose had begun trying to convert him....

Seeing him there was no surprise to anyone yesterday.... Why do you think that is?

Exactly what evidence would satisfy you?

I don't mind him playing RB every once and while, especially if the goal is to get him more playing time and experience at the PL level, I just don't like the idea of him being the primary RB back-up.

I prefer that he is the starting CB (with Dier) in the EL/Cup games with a proper back-up RB starting along side them in those games.

Nothing wrong with giving youth a chance at all as backups. We have to accept that with HG rules and the fact we ain't City or Chelsea that we will have to have the academy producing talent otherwise we face having to pay over the odds for English talent.

if we had a stud LB playing ahead of him that was a clear cut PL starter and a guy you can rely on week after week I think I would be more comfortable having a youth player as the back-up, but having Ben Davies as the #1 option begging week after week to be replaced by an actual player with quality knowing that the only other option is a guy who has shown absolutely nothing that he could play in the PL is a little concerning.

Or if we had a 3rd FB that was able to play LB/RB as an option to shift over if Cirkin is overwhelmed like many 18 year olds are, then that would be at least some back up.

But knowing that we are a knee twist or red card away from Cirkin being our starting LB for multiple games at the PL level should be a concern for every fan.

Tanganga won't be the primary RB ffs!
