So apparently we had 15 chances, so should have won easily, according to some with their heads buried in the sand.

Well they had 15 aswell.

Son had 4 chances, one from the edge of the area, another one would not have counted anyway as was offside, his header (and we scored from resultant corner)

And does anyone really think he would have had 4 chances if he had put the first one away ?
I certainly think if that had happened we would have just reverted to type earlier and sat back earlier. not creating anything and be dominated for even longer than we were, and result would have been same

The late defeat at Liverpool messed up the players, we aren't playing with the same intensity anymore. We played similar style of reactive football in the run of big matches before Anfield and our intensity to defend was much better, more aggressive and more solid.

Now the players have lost that edge as the title challenge has fizzled out. I think PEH said after the game that we need to be braver but also more compact. He's right, because even though we were "sitting back" against Fulham we were letting them run through us. We never let City or Woolwich play with that kind of freedom, yes we let them have the ball but we closed off all the spaces. We let Fulham into dangerous areas and it was inevitable they would score, whereas in the second halves against City, Liverpool and Woolwich I never felt like we were going to concede a goal from open play.

The second half yesterday was a team that is just half-asleep.
But how is that?
We weren't the first (and certainly won't be the last) team to lose to a late goal at Anfield... why does that have to mess with OUR players' heads more than anyone else's? ...or was it cos secretly we'd all convinced ourselves we might actually WIN up there?

For me, the West Ham debacle messed them up more.... to he 3-0 up, at home, with 8 minutes left and not see out a win was scandalous.... we even had the 'luxury' of allowing for a consolation goal or two!

No coincidence that our free-flowing, positive outlook took a battering after that!

Thats exactly why. We should have won with the chances we had and we lost. It was a big blow to us, especially because we have a squad of very soft players.

Reguilon also had a free opportunity early in the game that he hit over the bar. The chances were there.

My bigger issue is that most of those come before the 60 minute mark. We cleary slow down around then and the opposition has been able to pick one off of us. I think Jose should be looking for more offensive subs a bit earlier even with us ahead.
He still only used two yday from all the strength we had on the bench! Only making subs after they scored which indicates he was happy with the 11 out there and liked what he saw them doing? Surely if was not happy he would have changed it earlier. No need to be mystic meg to know what was gonna happen but he didn’t either think so or was happy with the status quo. Either way both are worrying! How sissoko got full 90 plus ending up with Kane in CM bcos our only creative player was taken off. Amazing dele or bale couldn’t get on yet sissoko manger full90. This guy is really defying logic with his player selections and in game choices. He leaves his faves on always. How many fuckups can dier make and how aimless long balls must he kick to get dropped! Funny thing was in 2nd his long balls were aimed at sissoko who neither jumps or can head. CB pairing should be Toby and Rodon who likes like a beast and can actually play.

In terms of chance creation that was our second highest X/G if the season (3.14) after the Utd game (3.30).

The issue creatively is most of that X/G (and chances) came in the first 45 (2.52) with the insipid second half producing (0.62). And without checking, that would seem to be a common theme. OK if your 2 or 3 up, but shelling 1 up not so clever.

The problem is, under Mourinho's guidance we seem incapable of managing out games, either by shelling or by retaining the ball. We just aren't very good at bus parking, and we aren't coached to control games using possession and a higher line. We kind of do both things ok, but neither well, don’t do either with enough aggression. Our bus park is just so fucking passive.

It's not that we are allowing a lot of great chances, we have the 4th best XGA in the PL, but within that there seems to be 1 or 2 very good chances and unlike ours they invariably seem to come later in games, often from set pieces.

We seem to be making the same tactical mistakes, both in general collectively and on a micro more individual level again and again.

Constantly starting someone like Sissoko who can’t help with possession, is clumsy in attack and isn’t efficient defensively is causing the same continual problems that it was for Pochettino. Whatever tactical approach he doesn’t fit.

Well there’s people on here who think that if we played a 3-5-2 then the exact same chances would have been taken.

It’s not how you kick the ball in a one on one that makes a difference, it’s what the numbers say on the white board in the dressing room.
Why doesn't Jose dhangenit when he sees the game slipping away? We all saw it so how doesn't he?

Does xg take into account that two of the best chances would have been disallowed? ( for marginal offsides) Even though lino didn't flag them.

No.. If we had played Aston villa we would have won.

The yellow kit was too similar to our white one. Fulham should have played in claret and blue.

What did Jose actually say in the post match interview. Was he deflecting again

Yes he was deflecting and blaming the he team for not killing it off first half and that one chance in the second half. No mention of why he made no subs to try and score another goal or the line up at the start. Basically it's not his fault...was the gist

And serious question, when we miss clear cut chances, do you scream “ffs Son/Harry/Bergwijn” etc etc

Or do you scream “make a sub!!!!”

It’s a compelling argument.

For those who rate Kane and Son on the same level as Loftus Cheek and Cavaliero

Or is it so wild to expect our forwards to be better than Fulhams
