If everything went by seeding through all the competitions (which obviously it won't), but here would be the pots for each competition, to give idea about the strength of each competition when we get to group stages.

So last 16 of Conference League if everything went to seedings would be the Pot 1 Conference teams listed above against the Pot 3 Europa League teams listed above, as the 3rd ranked Europa League teams would all be rated higher than 2nd tier Conference league.
Means winning the group would be important to avoid extra 2 matches.

But it would start to get serious in last 16 with based on coefficeients

Roma, Tottenham, West Ham, Villarreal, Real Betis, Real Sociedad, Basel, Marseille, Feyenoord, AZ Alkmaar, Fenerbahce, Spartak Moscow, Malmo, Linz, Gent, Anderlecht

In early round, against lower league teams, yes youth, bench players should play as long as the team is strong enough to advance. There is top teams in league cup to justify to advance and have a go. The sacrifice for this while focusing on the league is manageable.

Europa League with CL pathway is good enough to make the sacrifice. This ECL is not. Why? Thursday football and travel would affect the league schedule the whole season, yet the prize is meh. There is no big match up to look forward to.
You've moved the discussion, you said the EL wasn't worth playing in because it didn't pay enough. I argued that it pays 100X+ what the League Cup (which so many defend for some reason), and so you obviously think we shouldn't try to win that one.

Now you're saying the money doesn't matter, its about how big the teams you're playing are - even if the prize money for playing in the tournament doesn't even cover the player wage cost of participation.

Playing Roma or Villarreal in a final is meh? We haven't won a trophy in 13 fucking years. We were worried about becoming Woolwich with the stadium, but fuck me if we aren't turning into Spam.

I fancy F91 Dudelange (or Diddeleng) to win this cup, based on club name only.

Watching Tottenham on a ????????? night,
You don't play Thursdays because you fucking shite,

They've purposely made that trophy less 'trophy like' than the other two, to signify it's of lesser importance. I can hear them in the design meeting now - "Make sure it'z less cup-like zan zee uzzer two trophies, bitte, por favor, s'il vous plait."

That said, the FA Cup is the daddy of 'em all. Nothing else comes close. You should be able to wear a football trophy on your head and it must have a lid that falls off and doubles as a hat.

I love that you say it gets serious and then immediately after us on the list you have Wet Spam...

:sonlol:

Seriously, their season in the sun is over now, they'll be out of Europe as soon as Astra Goo Goo get wind of their participation, and if they do play in the group stage then their entire season will be fucked abd they'll be back in the relegation battle they belong in.

I’m not up for this competition at all and won’t spend any money on tickets for it so I’ll be downgrading both my STs to silver after many years at gold. I’ll also be selective with home domestic cup matches against “lesser” opponents now that I’m not committed to buying tickets for every cup match.

I’ll upgrade again once we’re back in the CL (unlikely), EL (possible) or out of Europe entirely (quite likely).

This image means so much to me.
Especially as a kid through the 90s.

It will be nice to see some old friends ... Qarabag, Shkendija, Sheriff Tiraspol.

Not sure if it's already been mentioned and by no means saying it's a great achievement to have qualified for this, however it may be more important in the long run than we think.

Teams get pretty much the same coefficient points for wins/draws in the conference league as the UCL and UEL. In 3 years there will be CL places up for grabs for teams outside the top 4 with high UEFA coefficients, or even seedings to think about in future group draws should we be in the competition. A season with zero returns would be pretty damaging as these count against you for 5 years.

As I said, not trying trying to justify it as a major achievement, but finishing above Woolwich, an opportunity for some of the youngsters next season, better in terms of revenue and coefficient points and a chance to watch Spurs play more often was the best of a bad set of outcomes on offer yesterday for me.

It will be our 13th season in a row playing in Europe. Something that Spurs fans could only wished in late 90's. United and City are the only clubs that have more consecutive seasons in Europe, City actually is on the same page as we are.

Just remember that, it's still is an achievement.

Agree. Thinking long term its positive. Heck, I would like us to win it anyway. Any trophy is better than none - I mean who are we turning up our noses to any real trophy (not the Audi Cup) since we have not won anything for 12 years and running. At least this statistic would go back to 0 taking some pressure of. That's why I was also sad we did not win the league cup. But additionally to that we would all hope to be back in CL and there the points are needed for seeding but more than that also money is split in regards to a coefficient.
